Advanced GPU HW Development Lab Manager


The role:

As the Advanced GPU HW Hardware Development Lab Manager, you will lead and drive the deployment of the lab infrastructure, lab networking, lab systems, SW tools, prototype systems setups, test equipment, run the Materials Lab Store, and lead the activities of the Lab Technicians. While working with groundbreaking HPC (high-performance computing) technologies, you and your team will be enabling the bring-up and development of advanced GPU systems and designs. This Development Lab Manager is a multi-functional technical leader working with Sr. HW Development Leads and engineers, lab technicians, and the Facilities team.

The person:

A successful candidate must be curious, self-driven, collaborative, and a strong team player with technical leadership as well as hands-on skills to support optimal performance and lab operations.

Must be proactive, and have excellent collaboration, team leadership, communication, project management, and organization skills.

Should have strong sophisticated networking, information security, and associated system configuration skills.

Preferably should have an understanding of the general silicon engineering process (preferably GPU, or CPU/APU), from concept to tape-out to production.

Experience with system management, automated deployment, monitoring, and ticketing tools is a strong plus.

A successful Lab Manager will drive technical infrastructure and deployment decisions, and must maintain an even keel. You will need to learn as you go and coach your team along the way as well.

Key responsibilities:

  • Run the day-to-day operations of, and resolve the associated issues with the development of lab equipment infrastructure and systems. Including:
  • Configure and rack-and-stack of lab systems
  • Configure GPU prototype systems setups
  • Manage test equipment deployment
  • Maintain system environmental management equipment
  • Lead the activities of the Lab Technicians
  • Manage all aspects of the lab equipment and Materials Store
  • Manage the lab network
  • Implement and deploy the lab system management tools
  • Work with the Lab Owners, Facilities, and the Design teams to implement future lab expansions and reconfigurations

Preferred experience:

  • Hands on experience in running a Hardware Development Lab
  • Demonstrated experience in managing Lab Technicians
  • Understanding of computer HW and architecture, and the HW development cycles
  • Demonstrated Project Leadership skills
  • Experience in industrial and electrical specifications, network and electrical installations
  • Strong networking and information security skills, and experience with VXLAN, and MLAG
  • Experience with System Management, such as Open-Stack
  • Hands on experience with deployment, ticketing, and monitoring software tools such as Snipe-IT, ServiceNow, and Zabbix
  • Experience with automated deployment processes such as Cobbler, Ansible, Chef, and Open-Stack
  • Experience with best practices for configuring machines that are directly exposed to the internet
  • Experience with space planning, facilities planning, and corporate leasing
  • Experience with HVAC management
  • Exposure to lab safety protocols, ESD protocols, and OSHA regulations

Academic credentials:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or another relevant discipline.
