BIOS/Firmware Manager - 158443

The Role:

This BIOS/Firmware manager role is going to manage AGESA team in North America. AGESA is the IP initialization BIOS code for AMD silicon. As the leader of the AGESA team, you will direct our AGESA Firmware teams responsible for the scoping, feature development, integration, tuning, of different IP components into the first system implementations of AMD desktop, laptop, and workstation systems. and work with our customer engineering teams to deploy to customer system.

 

The Person:

Leading these teams of technical experts and personally engaging in fundamental product development requires an unusual mix of management experience, technical breadth, problem solving, and soft skills. It’s not for the overly introverted. It is for the ambitious engineering leader who appreciates having a high-visibility role and making a significant impact to both AMD’s client business and the direction of the PC industry. To be successful in this role, you’ll need to blend excellent technical understanding of the operation of PC systems, highly optimized engineering processes and tools, mentoring and growing other technical leaders, and translating the business needs of the client product group to the product and system features that meet those requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead teams performing pre-silicon and post-silicon firmware development work
  • Lead teams delivering firmware stack for various PC segments.
  • Lead teams defining features and settings from initial silicon through production
  • Lead teams executing feature enablement and optimization
  • Lead system engineering, issue resolution and optimization
  • Lead teams executing documentation for design enablement and hands on optimization of select systems for product launch
  • Lead growth and resource expansion of the teams of around 10%+ per year including expanding engineering skills and capacity,
  • Mentor and grow engineers for the expanding organization
  • Direct the unit test, integration, optimization, and validation of AGESA features via a core team focused on this scope
  • Develop strong partnerships with program stakeholders across the organization and development partners
  • Effective with communication and building respect while communicating status to executive level audience

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Depth and expertise in System BIOS and/or other PC firmware development
  • Strong knowledge of ACPI, USB, PCI-E, SATA, x86 Core and other PC industry stand
  • Work with the architects to set create AGESA firmware modules and deliver it for all AMD client products
  • Feedback system improvement to various teams, including the System architect, IP, SoC, O/S, FW, and silicon enablement teams
  • Ensure system assessments and customer platform attainment to deliver industry best products

 

Academic Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or other relevant discipline plus a minimum of 10 years of industry experience including at least five years focused on BIOS or PC Firmware development.
  • Master’s Degree (MS) preferred
