CPU Post Silicon Debug (DFD) Engineer


The Role:


AMD’s CPU Cores team is seeking engineers who will help us bring Ryzen client and Epyc server CPUs to the market. If you are passionate about CPU architecture and thrive in a Core Silicon Lab environment – whether live or virtual -- this highly visible role is for you!


You will work with top CPU micro-architects and designers in the industry. As a Core silicon debug engineer you will learn and apply Design-For-Debug (DFD) architecture and flows to root cause failures in the lab and create innovative solutions to root cause bugs before and after production launch. You will collaborate across design, platform engineering and product teams, your work will enable delivery of high quality CPU to the cloud and to the hands of millions of customers worldwide.  You will apply your silicon debug experience to influence and advance Design-For-Debug (DFD) architecture for our next generation CPU cores.

Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment while creating and deploying state of the art tools.


Key responsibilities:

  • Apply Design-For-Debug (DFD) features in AMD Cores to root cause functional and production failures in silicon.
  • Work with architects, RTL designers, pre and post-silicon verification engineers to analyze and resolve silicon failures
  • Contribute towards architecture of hardware Design-For-Debug features to advance AMD’s silicon debug and validation capabilities.
  • Support efforts to reproduce silicon failures on pre-silicon and FPGA/Emulation platforms
  • Collaborate towards lab testing, infrastructure development and automation

Preferred experience:

  • Experience in silicon bringup/validation and the application of Design-For-Debug techniques and features.
  • Understanding of firmware, software and hardware interactions – particularly in a silicon debug or bringup context
  • Understanding of CPU architecture (x86, ARM, PowerPC etc) and computer system architecture
  • Scripting
  • Silicon and/or Embedded Systems bringup and validation
  • FPGA/Emulator experience 

Academic credentials:

  • BS/MS/PhD in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering is required
