Client System Debug Engineer - 170084

Come join the team responsible for driving AMD’s Shift-Left strategies for Client Desk Top/mobile CPU’s, planning and execution of our Client Compute Products, which are used by major OEM and compute solution customers in the world. In this role, you get to interact with multiple stakeholders (firmware/BIOS, SW, IP, DV, system architects) to debug system wide issues and failures for root cause resolution and feedback the solutions to design engineer teams of integration into future products.


System Debug Engineers are responsible for working directly with internal development teams for driving end to end System debug flow from triage through root cause in development labs. They are expected to provide root cause analysis and guidance to internal design teams to help close any gating issues.



AMD is seeking a System Debug Engineer who thrives in an environment that requires creative debugging skills, drive to improve pre-silicon system validation coverage capabilities, and a passion for improving our overall Shift-Left strategies and goals.   This individual is required to be a self-starter and be able to deal with a high level of ambiguity.


Required Skills:
• An understanding of PC industry standard busses, such as HT, PCI, PCIe, LPC, USB, and SATA is required in addition to detailed knowledge of high speed digital design and signal integrity.
• Strong understanding of BIOS, OS and driver interactions at the system level as well as a proficient understanding of x86 CPU architecture and functionality.
• Expert use of tools such as JTAG debuggers, logic analyzers, SATA, USB, and PCIe bus analyzers is required.
• Good troubleshooting skills to isolate component issues from software issues and use errors
• More than 5 years of hands-on work experience in an engineering lab environment.
• Confident with Window operating system environment and commands.
• Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional, multicultural team environment and to understand and apply technical concepts.
• Understanding and ability to explain computer system architecture.

Preferred Skills:
• Demonstrated desire to learn and grow within the role.
• Ability to work flexible days and hours including nights and weekends.
• Microsoft Windows & Linux OS Knowledge (install, configure, test). Must be comfortable with linux command line/Bash. 
• Strong problem solving (regression) skills. 
• Strong teamwork and communication skills. 
• Able to clearly communicate in written English (email, submit issues and document test results). 
• Good organizational skills: plan, prioritize and manage assigned workload; can efficiently execute multiple projects at the same time. 
• Quick learner: able to pick up and learn new concepts, applications and operating system in a short period of time
• Scripting ability such as bash/Python/Ruby is a plus
• Assists in the coordination and resolutions of technical issues.
• Knowledge of how systems power sequence from POST to operating system including power, BIOS, firmware, boot and HAL.


Educational Background:


  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s in  Systems & Network or Computer Science or computer engineering
