Director of Silicon Design Engineering - 110201

 

The Role:

This key technical leadership role is integral to the continuation of AMD’ market leading desktop and notebook CPU architecture – driving all architectural aspects of AMD’s Client product roadmap. This role will lead conceptual architecture definition, performance projections, Client IP architecture and drive development of new tools and methodologies.

 

The Person:

The successful candidate has a passion for delivering competitive, high-quality products. She/he will lead a high-performance team that defines architecture for AMD's Client products and drives the next generation integrated CPU cores, GPU, algorithm accelerators, memory controllers, and system peripheral interfaces. The definition includes hardware and software optimizations on key applications for AMD’s notebook and desktop processors.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive client long lead innovation and IP including all levels of architectural technical details with the IP teams and SoC team with a focus on aggressive differentiation
  • Own all IP metrics (e.g. functionality, power, area), floor planning, performance power analysis and bounding box (e.g. GFX, multimedia, IO,) power delivery, thermals, firmware, OS and drivers, etc.
  • Generate long term client roadmap product concepts. Includes device partitioning, packaging, chiplets, etc.
  • Customer engagement – will own some of the key strategic customer CTO office engagements (long term roadmap)
  • Collaborate with cross-company engineering (Cores, IP, platform), and Business Unit leaders to deliver quality products at competitive costs and schedule
  • Coordinate solutions to complex multi-discipline and multi-unit issues to advancing APU integration (more functions and performance) per generation
  • Direct critical cross organization initiatives
  • Develop and mentor key technical talent

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Demonstrated successful career progression in the semiconductor industry with a consistent track record of successfully building and delivering market leading products
  • Significant experience in SoC architecture.
  • Sound and rapid decision-making skills, ability to handle ambiguity, and consistent visibility to leadership.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills are vital – this leadership role requires continuous executive communication both internally and externally
  • Proven ability to attract top marketing and engineering leaders
  • Track record of having inspired change in organizations
  • Industry relationships with key system and technology architects
  • A strong understanding of system standards and future evolution
  • A good understanding of software operation from device driver to OS, to application

 

Academic Credentials:

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, MSEE / PhD preferred
