Co-op/Intern:   Linux Kernel and Virtualization Development and Validation


The Role:

Intern for our Linux Server Operating Systems team supporting the Linux kernel and KVM hypervisor - We collaboratively develop and support AMD EPYC CPU features in the upstream open source communities.  Areas of focus: x86-64 virtualization, secure virtualization (e.g. SEV/SEV-ES/SEV-SNP), I/O (IOMMU, DMA), power management, performance counters/perf utility, performance/scalability. 


The Person:

A graduate student, or undergraduate at least in 3rd year of computer science or computer engineering studies; passionate about Linux, operating systems development, computer systems, and open source development. 


Key Responsibilities:

You'll join one of our sub-projects under tutelage of one or more engineers from the team, supporting development and testing of CPU features for Linux and KVM. 



Preferred Experience:

  • Studies and coursework in operating systems fundamentals. Preference towards specialized studies in the field.  
  • Solid C programming skills, along with Bash and Python scripting skills
  • Exposure to KVM/QEMU (including x86-64 virtualization extensions) is a plus
  • Experience with the GNU toolchain
  • Experience with git desired


Academic Qualifications:

  • M.S. or B.S. (3rd year or above) of computer science or computer engineering studies
