Director, Graphics Systems Architecture – 103101


The Role:

AMD has an opening for Director, Graphics Systems Architecture.  In this role you will have primary technical responsibility for the architectural definition for the system level features and requirements ensuring strongly competitive Radeon Graphics products.  Partnering with ASIC architects, you will:


  • Drive investigations and solutions that enable our add-in cards and those system-level products of our downstream partners/customers to cost-effectively support the power and high-speed signaling requirements of our future graphics ASICs
  • Support Concept and Feasibility phase gate activities through BOM and BOM cost estimating and with “what-if” exercises that provide implementation versus cost trade-offs
  • Support the establishment and co-leading of a virtual architecture team across key Graphics System & Customer Engineering subject-matter-experts to work above items
  • Interface to OEMs and team with those also working with OEMs to ensure our future graphics solutions optimally address their system needs and requirements
  • Accumulate graphics system trends, requirements and capabilities and serve as a leading system voice/evangelist to drive alignment with AMD’s future graphics ASIC roadmap and those ASIC elements that impact system design
  • Team with product management to ensure their market requirements comprehend system aspects of the solution and are appropriately translated into product specifications, architectures and development plans


The Person:

Key Responsibilities:

Ensure that the Graphics Systems and Customer Engineering team has line of sight to system solutions that accommodate AMD’s graphics ASIC roadmap.   Ensure that those solutions comprehend market and customer requirements.  Serve as subject matter expert on overall system technologies and capabilities in order to guide and advise ASIC architects and silicon roadmap planners.  Key deliverables include:

  • Engagements with and influence of global MNC (OEM/ODM) customer architecture teams
  • Drive system architectural analysis content for Concept Phase Gate Exits
  • Support System Feature/Requirements Specifications for Feasibility Phase Exit 


Preferred experience:

Prior professional level experience as an architect or designer of high-power and high-speed GPU- or CPU-based server, notebook or workstation systems, motherboards and/or add-in cards, with a proven track record of successfully building and delivering complex products.

  • Experience with motivating, and mentoring junior engineers
  • Demonstrated success influencing technical colleagues
  • Experience driving alignment of cross-functional teams from multiple departments
  • Systematic thinking skills. Ability to deal with novel problems from different perspectives and from different levels of abstraction


Academic credentials:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.   Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering is preferred.
