Field Applications Engineering Senior Manager: WW Labs


The Role:

AMD’s Partner Support Field Applications Engineering (FAE) Organization is responsible for supporting our OEM and ODM partners as they define and develop new platforms based on AMD technology.

We are looking for our next team member to support, manage and build our global FAE lab infrastructure (The LAB).  This infrastructure is leveraged by the WW FAE team and is required to enable development activity, performance assessment and debug efforts with our internal and external partners. In this role, you will:

  • Work with our global Field Applications team to define, plan and execute our lab infrastructure plans which will include Data Center, Client and Workstation products in the AMD portfolio
  • Build infrastructure needed to ensure successful engagements with our partners
  • Plan and implement all aspects of our lab while ensuring high availability of existing equipment

Key Responsibilities:

Main focus:

Knowledgeable and comfortable with the hardware and software ecosystem needed to support The LAB needs. Including desktop and server systems (benchtop and rackmount), networking, storage, system operations, debug, and repair of hardware as needed. Software and networking experience is vital to fully configure and enable the hardware for internal and remote access.

Responsible for strategy, lab process and best practices, hardware (and software) procurement, and execution of lab priorities.


Responsibilities will include:

  • Staffing, training, and developing a World Class LAB team
  • Collaboration with WW FAE Team(s) to define and execute lab strategy.
  • Planning and execution of lab requirements to support new product transitions
    • Manage lab budget: CAPEX and OPEX expenses
    • Manage FAE NPI reference platforms strategy
    • Plan and manage debug tools and sample requirements
    • Introduce new products, technology, software into The LAB
  • Drive activity to achieve tactical and strategic goals
  • Define and implement best practices across all FAE LAB sites
  • Provide regular updates and plans to the global FAE organization
  • Align with regional labs to capture requirements and growth plans
  • Build and maintain hardware ecosystem for internal and remote access (POC).
  • Install and test solutions in-house, as required, to ensure successful deployments and evaluations
  • Drive a common process across the global FAE Labs
  • Define and implement a documentation plan to capture The LAB hardware, software, processes, and procedure
  • Lead technical planning sessions to align on The LAB plans
  • Provide hands-on, expert-level technical assistance to The LAB.
  • Be a credible authority to the FAE team to articulate The LAB capabilities.
  • Driving and enforcing safety protocols within The LAB
  • Other duties as required


Preferred Experience:

  • Proven professional experience, Management experience is a plus!
  • Very knowledgeable about desktop and server hardware
  • Familiar with all levels of software needed for modern desktop/server systems
  • Experience in HW bring up, debug, and deployment (node and cluster level)
  • Expertise/Knowledge of all major x86 OS/Hypervisors
  • Strong software and scripting skills
  • Broad technical understanding of CPU and GPU technology
  • Familiar with tools/processes/procedures needed to professionalize a modern lab


Academic Credentials:

Minimum of BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
