The Role:

AMD Embedded Solutions Group is looking for an Engineer for the exciting role of System Architect. This position is responsible for Product Definition of Embedded CPU and SOC products. This role has the responsibility to drive and collaborate with the teams responsible for Silicon Characterization, Power and performance, firmware teams to achieve optimal and best product definition that meets the Product requirements. As part of an experienced engineering group with highly talented engineers, you will help validate the IP specific to embedded customer use cases.  You'll be technically driving the group of engineers to understand the performance of the silicon as well as the platform.  You're the expert who helps Product Engineering, Platform team, Validation team and Firmware to deliver a product that meets the Product definition as per business segment needs.


Key Requirements:

  • Strong X86 Architecture knowledge
  • Strong understanding of detailed SoC architecture including various widgets, components and algorithms
  • Strong analytic skills including the ability to analyze Power measurements, system clock settings, power gating behaviors, identify potential areas for improvement and design / execute experiments with the overall goal being to optimize the product performance.
  • Strong power management background and good knowledge of firmware implementation for X86 platforms
  • Strong communications skills. Able to summarize complex problems for executives as well as drill down to details with architects and engineers
  • Debug Platform and CPU / APU bring-up issues and technically support the debug of issues discovered by validation of IP
  • Work closely with Validation engineers, Silicon teams and firmware teams to debug and root cause any silicon issues OR firmware issues.
  • Drive for resolution of all blocking issues that are gating the release of the silicon to customers.
  • Support silicon and system issues that are reported by Field and customer support engineers and guide them to resolve customer issues.



  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong Hands-on debugging experience with JTAG / Trace32 is required on test equipment like Logic analyzer, Oscilloscope and Protocol analyzers.
  • Experience in SOC / Platform Bring-up and debugging bring-up failures.
  • Experience in System level Performance & Power Optimization and measurements.
  • Experience in writing scripts in ruby or PERL.
  • Experience working in a multi-site environment and ability to travel as needed.



  • Engineering degree in Electrical / Electronics / Computer Science; Advanced degree preferred.
