THE ROLE:

The AMD Server Platform Design Team is seeking an experienced power engineer.  In this role, you will collaborate with platform design, thermal, and mechanical engineers team members.  You will define and design multi-phase/single-phase DC-DC power solutions centered on current and future PC architectures.  Additionally, you will be a key contributor for defining board power capabilities as part of the overall CPU power roadmap.  The Server Design Team fosters and encourages technical innovation as well as facilitates continuous career development.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and participate in definition, development, implementation, and validation of multi-phase/single-phase DC-DC power solutions used in our server platform designs
  • Provide domain-specific expertise and leadership and perspective to cross-organization projects, programs, and activities.
  • Lead the bring-up and validation of the platform power subsystem
  • Analyze failures, provide solutions, and work with team members and vendors for implementing solutions.
  • Testing and qualifying alternate power components used in the power solutions
  • Support product engineering in resolving customer problems which require system-level power expertise
  • Conduct feasibility studies, design margin, and validation analysis and empirical testing on new and modified designs.
  • Develop comprehensive specifications for board-level and system-level power solutions based on a clear understanding of the function to be demonstrated
  • Design board-level power solutions in schematics and review PCB layout using Cadence products; Work with thermal and mechanical team members for your designs
  • Provide technical expertise and mentoring for less experienced engineers

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated technical expertise in the area of system-level power supply design for digital/analog DC-DC solutions with special emphasis on multiphase power converters
  • Experience in a customer environment and knowledge of specific customer applications
  • Ability to use circuit simulations tools such as PSPICE, LTSPICE, and SIMPLIS
  • Extensive experience with engineering lab equipment, oscilloscopes, multi-meters, current probes, electronic loads, DC power supplies, etc.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills for both internal and customer facing interaction

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • A technology related Bachelor's degree plus 7 years or equivalent combination of training and experience
