Mobile Thermal Architect - 92132

THE ROLE:

Want to make an impact at a growing company as a Thermal Architect? Come be a part of the hardworking thermal team that defines thermal architecture and develops thermal technologies that enable groundbreaking performance for mobile computing products. This position will give you an outstanding opportunity to get involved in thermals from silicon to system level.

The person:

Looking for a leader and innovative problem solver that enjoys working with multi-functional teams and customers in a fast paced environment.

Key responsibilities:

Lead defining, driving, and running thermal development of mobile products. Crafting mobile thermal solutions. Collaborate with silicon, system architecture teams in architecting thermal features. Enable the performance team to achieve product performance. Work closely with customer engineering and OEM/ODM customers directly to debug and resolve thermal issues.

Preferred experience:

  • CPU and GPU architecture and thermal controls for APU/CPU, GPU and combinations of these. Must have experience with driving thermal feature concept, feasibility, implementation, and deployment.
  • Validated understanding in the following fields: PC/Server architecture, air/liquid cooling technologies, thermal management algorithm, power management, board design, BMC, and system management
  • Design for ergonomics – skin temperature, acoustic, performance optimization
  • Familiarity with skin temperature management including AMD STT features.
  • System layout optimization, chassis design, and thermal solution sizing to meet performance and sizing requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with BIOS, AMI Aptio, EDK2, and/or Linux codebases; practical use of board schematics and board block diagrams along with exposure to ACPI; and deep conceptual handle on performance as relates to thermal and power design
  • In-depth system knowledge of all key components and sub-systems which impact thermals (VRAM, NVME, VR, Memory, Charging circuit, etc).
  • Validated background in microprocessor and computer architecture, power firmware algorithm development, electrical characterization for production and power software
  • Ability to quickly identify thermal design problems and drive alternate solutions.
  • Experience with reliability modeling techniques such as architecture vulnerability factor (AVF) analysis or analysis of system reliability is desirable
  • Extensive lab experience required and should include: Labview programming and data acquisition, system teardown and instrumentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication. Ability to summarize and present issue status, design proposals, key findings, and AMD product thermal requirements at both AMD leadership and customer levels.

Academic credentials:

  • Mechanical Engineering Graduate with MSME with 10+ years minimum, PhD preferred with confirmed experience in computer system thermal design.
