Performance Engineer, High Performance Computing

THE ROLE:

Would you like to be part of an extraordinary team enabling applications for high performance computing? AMD is searching for hardworking and highly motivated computational scientists/engineers to join our team of developers preparing applications for supercomputing platforms across industry, academia, and national laboratories.

This position is for a senior performance optimization engineer in HPC. You will lead a leadership position in performance analysis and tuning of high-performance computing applications on AMD GPU and CPU platforms.

The person:

A computer scientist or engineer with specialist GPU programming skills and a proven track record of improving performance for applications and libraries widely used by the scientific computing community. Must be self-motivated and possess technical leadership abilities in a team environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize high-performance computing software and applications for use on AMD hardware
  • Provide technical leadership for a team of optimization engineers
  • Analyze, identify performance bottlenecks, and document performance characteristics of applications, libraries, development tools, and runtimes.
  • Represent AMD to customers and other third parties, and act as the customer advocate when presenting to AMD audiences
  • Engage with AMD product groups to drive resolution of performance issues
  • Develop and present training materials to internal audiences, at customer venues, and at industry conferences

Preferred experience:

  • Extensive experience in implementing and optimizing parallel methods on GPU accelerators in distributed memory systems with MPI, CUDA, HIP, OpenMP, and OpenCL
  • Expert performance analysis skills for both CPU and GPU
  • Extensive experience developing and using scientific computing software applications
  • “Ninja” level programming skills, especially in C/C++ and assembly language
  • Expertise with build system tools including Make, CMake, autoconf, and autotools
  • In-depth knowledge of software development practices including debug, test, revision control, documentation, and bug tracking
  • Strong team development skills including demonstrated expertise with git and Jira
  • Ability to work well in geographically dispersed teams

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Computational Physics, Engineering or related subject, or equivalent experience 
  • 5-7 years of relevant industry experience
