Senior Technical Lead - Custom SoC Power Attainment - 83311

The Work:

AMD’s Semi-Custom Business Unit is on the cutting edge of delivering the next gaming solution platforms.  Sony PlayStation?  How about XBOX?  Yea, that’s us.  We are looking for a dynamic and experienced End-to-End Power Systems Lead Technical Engineer with experience in the hardware, software and firmware needed to deliver power optimized solutions.   This person will be the technical lead to achieve our system level power and optimization goals.  We are seeking a dynamic Engineer who will deliver on our product goals related to SoC power management/architecture, features, and implementation, as well as develop positive relationships with program decision makers across our local and global organizations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

The Power System Technical Engineer will optimize the system level power attainment solutions for our Semi Custom APU/CPU products including working alongside our System Architects to set and achieve customer and architecture power attainment objectives.  This person will demonstrate excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to drive results on time and with quality. You will be an effective internal and external communicator, influencing and driving for results at various levels within AMD and with our customers.

 

In this role, you will be responsible for delivering to product power goals via technical collaboration with multiple functions to enable and optimize system power management features for our Semi-Custom solutions.  You will be directing the unit tests, integration, optimization, and validation of all power management features.

  • Develop and execute power performance targets spanning multiple usage scenarios throughout the entire hardware and software full stack
  • Familiarity with and hardware power management policies, features, and tuning; including ACPI, C-States, and P-State
  • Provide feedback and improvement ideas to the various teams, including the power management architecture, IP, SoC, O/S, FW, and silicon enablement teams
  • Communicate frequent status updates and reports to multi-level partners including an executive-level audience
  • Serve as point of escalation for any of the functional teams involved and resolve technical and resource challenges and hurdles
  • Technically mentor and grow junior engineers through hands on system work and overall team leadership to deliver to product goals.
  • Lead complex power related debug activities across a diverse set of technical contributors to resolve issues.

 

Preferred Experience:

Prior hands-on, working knowledge of system architecture and power attainment on APU/CPU/GPU/SoC 

  • Experience in custom product development/validation with hardware platforms and software ecosystem
  • Debug experience in X86, ARM, GPU solutions preferred
  • Business savvy; able to think strategically and make intelligent technical vs business trade-off recommendations
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, matrix, technical organization

 

Academic Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, Masters Degree preferred
  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience
