What you do at AMD changes everything

At AMD, we push the boundaries of what is possible.  We believe in changing the world for the better by driving innovation in high-performance computing, graphics, and visualization technologies – building blocks for gaming, immersive platforms, and the data center.

Developing great technology takes more than talent: it takes amazing people who understand collaboration, respect, and who will go the “extra mile” to achieve unthinkable results.  It takes people who have the passion and desire to disrupt the status quo, push boundaries, deliver innovation, and change the world.   If you have this type of passion, we invite you to take a look at the opportunities available to come join our team.

The primary role of this position is:

Generate, debug, and improve manufacturing and characterization test programs to validate next-generation AMD Enterprise microprocessors using System Level Test (SLT) platforms. Test infrastructure and activity may encompass areas including hardware, software, diagnostics, margin testing, and device-specific IP.  SLT is a post-package test that ensures overall compatibility and compliance of AMD microprocessors from initial bring-up through product qualification / NPI and high-volume manufacturing.  Hands-on development, characterization, and continuous improvement of product-specific test programs using laboratory test benches (platforms) and production test equipment are central to the role.

Responsibilities within SLT may include:

  • Integrating and releasing continuous improvements to test program content, quality, and efficiency
  • Supporting all aspects of new product bring-up, including understanding and characterizing product and test point margin as appropriate
  • Debugging issues, weak points, or potential improvement areas related to any portion of the SLT test, from firmware to BIOS to line-item-specific test program coding details
  • Developing, driving, and/or supporting SLT yield improvement plans based on Pareto reviews, helping to drive real fails upstream, eliminating false fails, and escalating major issues as needed
  • Supporting AMD-specific SLT standardization and test quality requirements
  • Leading and supporting multi-disciplinary teams involving Design, Diagnostics, Manufacturing, and/or other Engineering teams to resolve issues related to the product, including reliability, debug, and System Level Test activities.
  • Continuously improving internal HW and software tools used to generate results.

Qualifications:

Experience and education: Engineer candidates will have a B.S. or higher in Engineering/Physics (EE/EECS/Computer Engineering preferred) and a commensurate level of relevant semiconductor industry experience, including direct experience with platform test, system-level test, or other product-level debug/validation/characterization experience with semiconductor parts.

Required skills:

  • Prior coursework or direct experience related to Computer Science, Software Engineering, Digital Logic, Circuit Theory, and/or Computer Architecture.
  • Programming capability: C++, Java, C, C# preferred
  • Scripting capability: Python, Ruby, shell script, or similar preferred
  • Knowledge of Lean, XP, AGILE, Scrum, or Kanban processes & values
  • Clear understanding of statistical analysis and Pareto-based yield analysis
  • Familiarity with building a computer with required components (MB/cards/etc.)
  • Desire and willingness to continuously learn, ask questions, and solve problems
  • Willingness to work hands-on as a team member in a lab environment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with geographically-dispersed teams overseas

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in silicon debug using customized diagnostics and OS’s on a cell/bench/System Level Test platform
  • OS Experience: Experience with Linux or Unix OS
  • Experience with revision control (GIT, SVN, CVS, or similar)
  • Low-level software development experience (Assembly, BIOS)
  • Experience with PC HW debug including networking, storage, and thermal control
  • Familiar with using logic analyzers, voltmeters, oscilloscopes, or other debug tools
  • Familiar with hardware description languages
