Remote Management -Firmware Design Engineer

 

THE ROLE:

As an integral member of the AMD Data Center group developing Data Center Graphics Processing Units, working closely with Remote Management Architect, you will design, implement, and manage Remote Management code base.

 

Remote Management enables Out of Band control and monitoring of GPU in the context of data center deployment using a mix of proprietary and industry-standard protocols.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own Remote Management firmware design, implementation, and maintenance based on established high-level requirements.
  • Design a flexible parametric code base and automated build environment enabling the generation of various product-specific implementations.
  • Design for testability, debuggability, and manageability in an embedded environment with limited external communication capabilities.
  • Develop test scripts/applications (e.g. Python) to exercise and test design.
  • Develop test benches to exercise and test low-speed protocols (e.g. PLDM, MCTP, SMBUS, I2C).
  • Document implementation.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Proficiency with embedded environments; C development for resource-limited microcontrollers a strong plus
  • Experience with DMTF PMCI PLDM a strong plus
  • Experience with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) a strong plus
  • Experience with Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI), Platform Management Bus (IPMB), Field Replacement Unit (FRU) structure a plus
  • Experience with version control system (e.g. GIT) management a strong plus
  • Familiarity with higher-level languages for system-level test and validation development (e.g. Python)
  • Experience with Unix-like systems (familiarity with ssh, basic navigation, basic OS workings)
  • Experience with test bench and tools development for system validation
  • Familiarity with scripting in both Unix-like systems and Windows
  • Familiarity with low-speed H/W interfaces (I2C, SMBUS, SPI, I3C)
  • Familiarity with basic H/W debug (e.g. scoping of low-speed signals) a plus
  • Familiarity with ARM Cortex M3/4 a plus
  • Familiarity with Atmel SAM microcontrollers a plus
  • Familiarity with Visual Basic scripting (Macro development) a plus

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
  • 10 years of experience
