Firmware Architect:

 

Role:

Firmware architect will play key role of ensuring AMD Embedded firmware (AGESA BIOS, security, power management) address critical Embedded market segment (Networking, Storage, Automotive, Thin client) requirements performing the below:

  • Own AMD Embedded firmware roadmap
  • Influence AMD product generations working with core firmware teams and ensuring Embedded requirements are addressed
  • Working with vertical marketing & product teams to understand key firmware gaps and help address in future products
  • Work with Platform Firmware Organization (PFO) in conjunction with Embedded segment architects to meet product requirements
  • Provide key firmware requirement / enhancement inputs pertaining to focused Embedded markets
  • Provide custom firmware design support for tier-1 customers by assisting understanding of requirements, identifying solution and architecting the high-level design
  • Assist engineering teams in understanding specific features and triaging firmware issues
  • Assist customer support team in addressing any firmware related queries
  • Influence ecosystem partners (IBVs) for Embedded roadmap alignment

 

Responsibilities:

  • Own Embedded Firmware roadmap including special Embedded features (Ethernet, NTB, NVDIMM, NVME hot-plug, Graphics / Display, ISP)
  • Define & guide Embedded firmware release process
  • Ensure Embedded firmware requirements are addressed in future products by participating in server/client BU and other core team meetings
  • Major stakeholder in Product functional / architecture specification
  • Conceptualize FW support needed for embedded specific features and approve designs
  • Support customer engineering leads in solutioning custom firmware requirements
  • Support customer interactions for engineering deep-dive
  • Provide high level designs for custom firmware solutions
  • Approve low level designs and review custom firmware implementations
  • Assess firmware bugs and its impact on Embedded products along with assessing fix / workaround
  • Build relationship with industry vendors (IBVs) and ensure ecosystem alignment for AMD Embedded product roadmap

 

Experience:

  • 20+ years technology experience with 15+ years firmware experience, 5+ years architecture experience
  • Good understanding and experience with BIOS, security and power management firmware
  • Strong knowledge of UEFI BIOS, ACPI. AGESA knowledge is a big plus
  • Strong knowledge of platform BIOS development
  • Good knowledge SoC security features – root of trust, TPM, Trusted execution etc
  • Good knowledge SoC power management – CPU/Device power states, hot-plug etc
  • Firmware development & release process understanding
  • Prior experience working with firmware design & development
  • OS/Drivers/Software stack understanding is a plus
  • Excellent communication and articulation skills
  • Leadership experience is a plus

 

Academic credentials:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science engineering from reputed college
  • Master’s degree from reputed university is a big plus
