Client Platform Power Management Debug Engineer - 167521

The Role:

Client Platform Power Management debug engineer work with our Silicon Design and Firmware teams to implement cutting edge power management solutions for our client processors. This is a hands-on job that involves direct enablement of power management features in a lab environment; enabling, validating and debugging new and modified ways to provide the best performance at the lowest power consumption. Exposure begins at the architecture level, working with pre-silicon teams to maximize pre-silicon coverage, post-silicon bring-up and enablement, and engagement through production and working with customer facing teams for best adoption. We get to work in a dynamic environment, directly with the product, tools, motherboards, and BIOS/OS to take a new product from creation to customer reality.

 

The Person:

Passion for debug is a key trait for a successful candidate for this job. Experience solving difficult problems, good understanding of computer architecture, ability to script and code in python/ruby scripting languages. Ability to analyze, debug, & root cause issues found with a processor enabled platform and work with appropriate development teams to provide a solution. Train team members and support staff in validation and debug of power management features. We work in lab with a great group of experienced engineers, providing an ideal and fun environment for new engineers to learn and develop debug skillset. Winning and having fun attitude fits great. Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with design and firmware engineers to understand key power management feature design and implementation
  • Work with Pre-silicon emulation and verification teams to understand coverage for those features and help develop comprehensive and complementary test plans for the post silicon environment.
  • Enable those features during the silicon bring up in conjunction with HW, FW, and SW engineers at AMD
  • Debug power management failures from various client processor execution to isolate, analyze scenarios to root-cause.
  • Support customer power management issue debug and drive to resolution

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Strong Experience in the semiconductor industry doing post-silicon validation and debug. Debug skills at both SoC and system level
  • Hands-on experience in design and debugging HW issues on SoC and x86 platform involving HW-FW-SW interactions
  • Experience debugging with hardware and software integration
  • Experience debugging with JTAG, oscilloscope, logic analyzer, etc. is desirable.
  • Familiarity with OSes (Linux, Chrome, Windows Server)
  • Experience with power management features enablement, debug is a plus
  • Ability to communicate technical issues and solutions with the customer and internal teams.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills, ability to learn quickly, and pronounced attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, a good team player desired

 

Academic Credentials:

  • BS or MS in Electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering or other relevant subject area
