Senior Power Engineer


In the Advanced System and Power team, we design high-technology platforms for world class products based on AMD’s Graphics Processing Units (GPU’s). Our team plays a major part in architecting and shaping every graphics board offered by AMD.  This team designs cutting edge power converters for our discrete graphics boards that retail around the world.

Constantly facing stringent demands in terms of current levels, efficiency and responsiveness, these designs are essential to maximizing the performance of our GPU in an efficient and cost-effective manner



  • This person would be responsible for supporting the design, analysis and verification of digitally controlled multiphase high current/low output voltage step down converters. 
  • Must be self-driven, collaborative, and a strong team player with technical leadership skills to support optimal performance.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and organization skills.


  • Capture and document the power requirements of the next generation GPU's and the specifications of the input power available
  • Reviewing converter topologies and selecting power components like (PWM Controllers, Power transistors and passive filter elements such as magnetics and capacitors; structuring the executing the extensive preliminary design verification based in the state of the art circuit design
  • Preparing schematics as well as interacting and supervising the PCB layout and mechanical teams in developing robust implementations;

          debugging new designs and identifying compliance to original specifications by comprehensive laboratory work executed in the context of exhaustive test plans;

          supporting other teams with power-related issues during the characterization and launch phases of new graphics cards;

          contributing to and recommending original design ideas for future applications, based on experience gained in previous design cycles.




  • Excellent understanding of the fundamentals of power electronics with special emphasis on multiphase power converters;

·                demonstrated the ability to work with oscilloscopes, multi-meters, current probes, electronic loads, and

           protocol analyzers as well as adept at intuitive reasoning to explain and correct unexpected results;

·                proficient at documenting experimental results in a structured manner for ease of reference and

           review by less power aware managers and/or teams.



  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
