Senior Coreboot Engineer

The Role:

Firmware engineer working closely with other developers, architects, design verification teams, and key external partners on planning, prioritization and execution activities for firmware testing solutions spanning pre and post-silicon for all AMD business units. This role enables Coreboot technology on AMD products.

The Person:

Will have direct experience with firmware or Linux development, and exposure to either pre-silicon or post-silicon design cycles. This will include bringing a strong technical outlook in areas of feature documentation, development, test-planning and issue resolution. In addition, this person will need to be a strong problem solver and be able to show a history of mitigating issues and collaboration with team members to propose solutions and ways to make forward progress.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for enabling Coreboot, and adapting AGESA source, including testing and debug for pre and post silicon support.
  • Engage with technical leads to understand firmware scope and work on implementation execution, including testing, to meet schedules and achievements.
  • Work with internal and external teams to ensure the highest level of happiness throughout firmware lifecycle.
  • Must be well-organized, technically oriented, and a self-starter with a proven ability to work collaboratively and coordinate activities with geographically distributed technical teams.
  • Validated history of working and succeeding in fast-paced and highly dynamic environments.

Preferred Experience:

  • Coreboot and/or Linux development.
  • Open source and community collaboration.
  • Experienced C programming and debugging skills for embedded systems.
  • Shell scripting and/or Python.
  • EDK II knowledge is an added advantage.
  • Working experience and/or exposure to firmware testing platforms including: Unit Level, Simulation and Emulation.
  • Validated ability to methodically root-cause sophisticated failures at the IP, subsystem and/or system level.
  • Knowledge of firmware algorithms used in host protocols such as: SCSI, SATA, eMMC, USB, PCIe, NVMe is an added advantage.
  • Ability to grasp new technical concepts quickly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

Academic Credentials:

  • 8+ years of firmware programming experience strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
