SoC Pre-Silicon Power Analysis & Attainment 
 

The Role
We are looking for a hardworking and dedicated member to join the SOC Power Architecture team in the AMD Client Computing and Graphics group. You will work on the critically acclaimed AMD Ryzen processors expanding upon our SoC and IP power modeling infrastructure. As an integral member of the pre-silicon power analysis and attainment team you’ll assist in power correlation and power attainment for workload power for future generation Ryzen processors, drive power analysis and debug in pre-silicon, and assist design teams in meeting their power budgets.

 

The Person
We need a person who is independent, detail-oriented, and driven. This person should enjoy exploring power topics and collaborating closely with different teams across AMD to achieve generation over generation power reduction.

 

Key Responsibilities
 

  • Key responsibilities include developing techniques to analyze, attain, and reduce power consumption of AMD APUs
  • Your role requires you to interact with Power Modeling, Architecture & Methodology Teams. You will also collaborate with PTPX and Platform Emulation, RTL Design Engineers, and Physical Design teams to study and implement power analysis and reduction techniques for AMD's next generation APUs
  • Your contributions will help us gain early insight into energy consumption of client workloads, and will allow us to influence architectural, design, and power management improvements. It will also enable us to attain pre-silicon power targets for the program
  • Candidate will be collaborating across Architecture and RTL teams to establish methodologies, workflows & processes to ensure efficient power metrics tracking
  • Make recommendations to Architects in future optimizations
  • Work with Verification teams to define power tests which will be used for RTL optimization efforts, drive debug and power correlation of usecase power in pre-silicon
  • Perform comparative power analysis for IPs across SoC generations as well as within a SoC at different milestones, to spot trends and anomalies, that warrant more scrutiny
  • Use existing workflows to analyze IP power and suggest RTL modifications to improve power
  • Collaborate with backend teams to improve clocking, floor planning etc.

 

Preferred Experience

  • Good understanding of CPU, GPU, IO, and computer system architecture
  • Solid understanding of device physics, related to power dissipation
  • Experience in Python is required
  • Experience in PowerArtist, PTPX, or similar EDA power simulation tools is required
  • Experience in RTL design (Verilog), verification and logic synthesis is a plus
  • Experience in leading a team is a plus
  • Working knowledge of using industry standard tools such as Design Compiler,  PTPX and Power Artist to identify areas of improvement and define metrics to gauge the Energy efficiency of the design
  • Good understanding of physical design and VLSI
  • Expect you to have good interpersonal skills, one who is self-motivated and works well with others.

 

Academic Credentials

  • Bachelor of Science degree with emphasis in Electrical Engineering, Computer architecture, VLSI design or equivalent
  • Master's preferred
