What you do at AMD changes everything

At AMD, we push the boundaries of what is possible.  We believe in changing the world for the better by driving innovation in high-performance computing, graphics, and visualization technologies – building blocks for gaming, immersive platforms, and the data center.

Developing great technology takes more than talent: it takes amazing people who understand collaboration, respect, and who will go the “extra mile” to achieve unthinkable results.  It takes people who have the passion and desire to disrupt the status quo, push boundaries, deliver innovation, and change the world.   If you have this type of passion, we invite you to take a look at the opportunities available to come join our team.

Software Architect – Customer Enablement and Migration Engineering

AMD’s Customer Enablement and Migration Engineering team within the Datacenter Ecosystems and Application Engineering (DEAE) organization is looking for a Software Architect who will own collection and integration of tooling to collect Full Stack analysis of customers Application (application profiles), customer platforms (platform profiles).  These will be assessed and leveraged to recommend AMD platforms across physical, virtual, cloud and container environments.

The Person:

You will be a key member of the Customer Enablement and Migration Engineering (CEME) team.  CEME is enabling the ecosystem to support adoption of AMD EPYC processors and technologies.  You will partner with the CEME Program leader as they drive the internal execution of customers ‘Full Stack’ assessments.  (end-to-end assessment of performance across middleware, runtime engine, DBMS, OS, BIOS and AMD EPYC products in the delivery of the application). Support the identification of standardized tooling to collect customer environment manifest which includes resources, configurations, dependencies, libraries, bios settings, etc.    Design a standard collection process that allows AMD to securely collect and anatomize the configuration for replication for testing and performance engineering.   Design collection of Workload resource utilization of the existing platform to understand the concurrent consumption patterns so that the resource utilization can be replicated / simulated during testing.   Normalize these collections into workload profiles over time to better understand how workloads can be represented and replayed during placement selection on AMD EPYC platform for adoption, instantiation and replacement (i.e. cloud and container).   Full Stack software architect will have a solid understanding of the application characteristics of major workloads in the market (i.e. SAP, SQL, OracleDB, MySQL, etc.) to build out a framework (structed schema) for ‘workload profiling’, ‘platform profiling’ and system manifests.   The leader will come with broad background in full stack assessment and tooling.  The leader will build credibility with key engineering and management stakeholders of the strategic partners and customers as well as AMD’s field and sales team to report progress, align on critical topics, and drive action items to closure.

    • Systematic collection of current platform manifests
    • Systematic collection of current workload profiles
    • Programmatic recommendation of best AMD platform and configuration to meet the customers workload requirements
    • Capture learnings within internal systems and build out a repository to help AMD Field Engineering drive adoption of AMD platforms at scale
  • The DEAE Customer Enablement and Migration Engineering Software Architect will partner with DEAE Engineering teams to identify a set of tooling to collect customer workload profiles, customer platform manifests and customer platform profiles.
  • Partner within the DEAE organization on recommend reference architecture configurations and determine how best to capture and represent these standards in platform manifests
  • Partner within the DEAE organization on standard benchmarking practices and performance collection to determine how ‘custom benchmarking and baselining’ can be collected, characterized and represented
  • Partner with DEAE Cloud and OEM teams that Manage strategic partners as they build migration practices to support AMD EPYC adoption (assess migration and adoption services)
  • Report overall execution status internally as well as externally and make critical communication to partners on schedule changes, feature enablement, etc. and align on the right next steps.
  • Connect and coordinate internally with key stakeholders in cross-functional teams to address and balance prioritization of reasonable needs/asks vs. push-back on others.
  • Connect with partners, as well as AMD executives, to get sponsorship for critical needs of the customer requiring large resource and budget investments.
  • Facilitate closure of complex issues and action items requiring multi-party alignment of AMD teams, customers and their partners.
