Sr Data Architect

The Role:

Be an integral part of a significant data transformation at an exciting and rapidly growing technology company! AMD is seeking a Senior Data Architect who will work collaboratively with AMD IT and business teams to maximize the value derived from data and analytics and to drive competitive advantages and operational efficiencies using data as an asset. S/he will assist in identifying information of highest value to the organization, in establishing and maintaining effective data governance processes, and in creating information models in multiple forms as needed (conceptual models, relational models, etc.). All activities will center around the concept of driving business value through insights gained from effective use and management of data.

The Person:

You should have proven experience in communicating to audiences at multiple levels and in driving transformational initiatives. You should have solid experience that focuses on strategy (vs hands-on implementation.)

Key Responsibilities:

The Data Architect will work with AMD's Enterprise Information Management team, the AMD IT Architecture Team, the Advanced Analytics and Machine Learning Team, The AMD Information Security Team, and other stakeholders to define, plan, and implement data solutions to take advantage of modern data platforms, including cloud and on-premises platforms as appropriate. S/he will work across AMD Engineering teams, AMD Business Units, and IT teams to understand data needs.

In defining AMD's Data Architecture, this position will have strong influence on the ongoing development of AMD data platforms, including databases, data orchestration tools, data lakes, visualization tools, machine learning and AI tools, data dictionary tools, and data security. In making recommendations, S/he will consider current tools and team skillsets but will also think outside of the box with respect to new tools/skills in which AMD should invest. The Data Architect will ensure that architecture and implementation plans are based on best practices for the technologies being used, working with stakeholders to coordinate any technical transitions to ensure that they are executed with a minimal amount of disruption to data operations.

The Data Architect will work closely with the AMD Information Security and IT Architecture Teams to ensure that implementations conform to AMD security policies and best practices and are consistent with AMD Architecture principles and strategies.

Items to consider include but are not limited to:

  • Data security and access controls
  • Network and access point security
  • Data encryption (at rest and in flight)
  • Auditing capabilities.

The Data Architect will also participate in data governance activities to drive best practices for data classification, data lineage, data provenance, and master data management. S/he will also have influence over application integration strategies as they pertain to data.

The Data Architect will work closely with other members of the AMD Enterprise Information Management Team and the Advanced Analytics and ML team to mentor them as appropriate on best practices with respect to data architecture. S/he will also contribute to broader data governance and education forums across the company.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in a data warehousing, data architecture, or data science field is critical
  • Familiarity with established architectural frameworks is also expected.
  • Experience with tools/platforms including Informatica, Microsoft SQL Server, Snowflake, SAP HANA, SAP S/4, and Microsoft Power BI is desired

Academic Credentials:
