The Role:

AMD is seeking a Senior Program Manager to join the Embedded Business Unit Strategic Projects and R&D Operations team. In this individual contributor role, you will be leading R&D cross-organization projects, new process development and process improvements; and managing R&D budget planning and operations. This role requires excellent planning and organization skills, number crunching and data interpretation skills as well as great interpersonal skills. This position reports into the Director of Strategic Projects and R&D Operations and is based out of Austin TX as the preferred location with Santa Clara CA as second preferred.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead R&D cross-organization initiatives, defining requirements, scoping project and developing project plan, getting executive buy-in, and delivering project per agreed upon timelines and budget.
  • Lead R&D new process creation and process improvement projects, proactively identifying new processes and uncovering process improvements to improve overall team performance.
  • Lead the R&D operations role for the business unit with in-depth understanding of the corporate and department R&D processes and timelines.
  • Drive cross functional alignment among different teams including the other program managers.
  • Share best practices with other operations organizations and incorporate any learnings from them as well for continuous improvement.
  • Drive regular cadence of operational items due for various reviews and represent embedded R&D team in various corporate forums and processes.
  • Drive the R&D opex modelling and attainment with finance team and engineering leaders to make sure full consolidated tracking of the overall spend as well as achieve 100% opex attainment every quarter.
  • Own and drive the corporate project-based accounting process with accurate and timely data population meeting all the key deadlines. 
  • Drive the data gathering and consolidation for the annual operating plan across the engineering organization and prepare bottoms-up roll-ups with different parametric views to scrutinize data for key insights.
  • Run the monthly engineering ops reviews and consolidate key uplevelled reporting items for further BU level reporting.
  • Help in planning and organizing the engineering leadership all-hands and offsites with critical agenda driven from the top challenges to focus on.


Preferred Experience:

  • Strong proven program management skills including, defining and scoping programs, getting executive buy-in, managing risks, and meeting agreed upon timelines and budget.
  • Familiarity with engineering budgeting process and long-range as well as annual planning process.
  • Experience in finance discipline will be plus.
  • Experience working in a multisite and multi-cultural environment and ability to travel as needed.
  • Team player with passion and hunger to proactively do whatever it takes for business success.
  • Familiarity with latest program management tools and expert excel user.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent skills of managing up with right set of data/reports to executives for visibility and decision making.
    • Ability to align, resolve conflicts and build consensus among parties working towards the final goal.
    • High sense of urgency, discipline, and drive for results.
    • Relentless focus on operational excellence.


Academic Credentials:

  • Engineering degree preferred in EE, Computer Engineering, or CS with 15+ years of overall experience and 4+ years of experience in engineering operations role
  • PMP certification a plus
