Performance Architect - Tech Lead

The Role:

AMD’s Memory Subsystem Performance Architecture team delivers performance features and models for all of AMD’s flagship processors. This includes the CPUs, GPUs, and APUs that power AMD’s Server, Client, Game Console, discrete graphics, and machine learning products. As a principal contributor this high-caliber team, the individual will own analyzing and optimizing high-performance memory subsystem designs for Cloud computing, machine intelligence acceleration, and immersive mobile processing.

This opportunity puts you at the heart of the action where you will communicate, propose, and implement solutions to processor and system performance issues through multi-discipline interactions with microprocessor architects, ISA definition owners, software optimizers, compiler team, logic designers, and verification engineers to identify, resolve and document architectural performance issues.

Key Responsibilities

Microarchitecture exploration, performance modeling, and analysis for next-generation memory technologies, scalable interconnects, and quality-of-service.

  • Propose solutions to improve performance and to optimize future memory subsystem designs through an intimate understanding of design architecture and collaboration with micro-architects and designers
  • Resolve competitive status and isolate weaknesses in our products for future improvement by leading micro-benchmarking, workload characterization, competitive analysis, bottleneck identification, and optimization efforts
  • Develop and maintain tools and advance methodology for performance analysis of workloads and data collection
  • Participate in next-generation product planning, concept/HLD reviews, and program execution reviews with leads of multiple business units and our executives

Preferred Experience:

Seek a person with a proven background in Performance Architecture who is also a technical leader and who has experience with:

  • CPU, GPU, or computer system microarchitecture
  • Development and usage of computer system performance models
  • Computer workload analysis
  • Leading staffing, budget planning, project execution and cross-team dependencies with strong communication skills
  • Minimum of BS + 9 years or MS + 7 years or PhD + 5 years

Academic Credentials:

  • Bachelors, Masters, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineer, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related field
  • Masters or PhD with emphasis on computer architecture preferred
