Senior Manager, Systems Design Engineering

 

THE ROLE:

The Datacenter Systems Design Engineering team needs a dynamic, energetic leader to provide technical guidance, day-to-day supervision, and strategic vision within our growing design team.  The DCGAP systems team is a key element of AMD’s strategy to deliver the highest quality, industry-leading technologies to market.  As a Senior Manager, you will be leading a technical support team that bridges the key interface between design, validation, internal operations and strategic partners.

In working collaboratively with pre- and post-silicon hardware, software, firmware, and diagnostic teams to ensure first silicon success and rapid silicon validation of our discrete GPU products.  Your team is responsible for reviewing all NPI build yields, and CE team reports to effectively and quickly triage all reported problems into their respective sectors (design, component or process). This requires effective communication at a senior level between HW design, technical operations, Diagnostics and senior customer representatives.  This position has excellent visibility to leadership across the company.

 

 

THE PERSON:

The successful applicant will have a coaching and mentorship mentality, to guide the growing team in best practices and nurture our technical leaders, coupled with a solid grasp of the underlying discrete GPU technologies.  Excellent communication and organization skills are required.  The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex technical problems and has a track record of doing so.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist technical leads in driving technical issues to resolution, utilizing technical knowledge of IPs and the overall system
  • Drive design, validation, operations and CE team engagement planning for each SoC program, as well as execution towards program milestones
  • Design & develop optimal support strategies in line with CE (Customer Engineering) to optimize time to resolution in all customer reported issues while minimizing drain and design team resource
  • Build an Apps Engineering (AE) support function to effectively bridge the gap between HWDesign and all interfaces internally & externally

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 10+ years of experience, including at least 5 years in management
  • Knowledge of graphics, display, multimedia, high-speed data transfer (e.g. PCIe, USB), and/or SoC system knowledge is ideal
  • Experience with the interaction of board level HW and HPC nodes is helpful
  • Strong communication and teamworking skills are essential, with proven ability to lead through influence
  • Demonstrate experience driving change and working across functions and geographies to deliver products to specific KPI
  • Experience with pre- or post-silicon verification/validation, power, and performance analysis

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (required) in electrical or computer engineering (preferred)
