Sr. Manager System BIOS Firmware Engineering 

 

THE ORGANIZATION:

Be part of a growing team within AMD that is building GPUs/Accelerated Processors and CPUs that power the world’s biggest systems used for Machine Learning, HPC and AI. Our customers include some of the biggest names in the industry and are eager to partner with AMD. This team is expanding its scope to cover CPUs specially designed for MI/HPC customers. This is driving the need to expand our capability in productizing CPUs for servers. This role will focus on building up the SBIOS / Server FW QA organization.

 

In this role, you will work with an existing SBIOS QA team to develop a parallel test team to focus on MI/HPC based systems. The team will work closely with designers and FW development teams to build out test plans to validate and release our core FW and work closely with Independent BIOS Vendor (IBV) to deliver Platform SBIOS for internal reference designs and our customer platforms. You are a self-starter with experience working on FW test teams. You have led the growth and operations focusing on test development, personnel and driving innovation in testing. You understand automation mechanisms and have outstanding communication skills.

 

You will be part of the Graphics Data Center and Accelerated Processing Validation team. We are looking for people with passion, technical experience, and energy to stretch the boundary of testing. THE ROLE:
Platform Firmware QA Manager: responsible for leading Platform FW (SBIOS) validation planning and execution of our next generation MI. The work will require interlock with other engineering and business teams including SOC Design/Architecture, FW/SW, and Product Management teams. The role will reside in the Datacenter Graphics and Accelerated Computing team which is responsible for GPU & CPU Silicon, GPU Boards and CPU/GPU System Validation. You will report to the Sr. Director of Validation. If you like pushing the envelope of what is possible and collaborate across teams to raise the test bar, you will fit into our future goals. We want people who have knowledge and experience delivering complex SOCs and Systems.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Planning, designing, developing and testing automated firmware (FW) continuous integration and smoke testing, automation infrastructure and FW test cases
  • Partner with FW developers and ASIC Design team in new feature definition and bring up for future product generation
  • Improve customer satisfaction and product quality by increasing firmware test coverage and efficiency.
  • On time delivery of team deliverables
  • Collaborate with internal groups on behalf of the group or project
  • Aggressively grow team through active recruiting, interviewing and offer stage
  • Influences others as a technical leader
  • Builds and leverages trusting relationships with stakeholders

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrated experience leading a Firmware or SBIOS / BIOS QA test team
  • Proven results in establishing test processes and workflow to support embedded Firmware release cycles
  • Have built a Firmware QA organization in the past including hiring, leading, and developing talent
  • Core knowledge of BIOS/Firmware interfaces (UEFI, ACPI, SMBIOS) or Windows and Linux kernel as a plus
  • Experience with test automation, CI & FW release management
  • Working knowledge of Agile SW development processes
  • Ideally have worked in a Semiconductor or System company (CPU silicon/system experience)
  • Experience in developing test strategies based on an understanding of silicon/hardware features
  • Graphics experience a plus
  • Understanding of HW/FW/SW interaction and system-level design
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated ability in “showing initiative” to get things done

 

EDUCATION:

BS OR MSdegree or equivalent accomplishments in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering or related fields
