System Software OS, Virtualization and Security Architect - 94706

 

The Role:

AMD's Datacenter Ecosystem and Applications Solutions team is looking for an ambitious and self-driven System Software Architect to join our team to define next generation OS, Virtualization, and Orchestration solutions optimized for AMD EPYC Server Processors.

 

The Person:

As a System Software Architect, you will be responsible for making high-level design choices based on system software development experience to deliver scalable, secure, reusable, extensible, maintainable, and implementable operating system, virtualization, and orchestration solutions. These solutions will be developed internally, in collaboration with open source communities, and with commercial system software companies to enable and use the full capabilities of AMD's EPYC Server Processors.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Decompose system and hardware use cases and requirements into system software requirements and architecture

  • Collaborate with CPU & SOC hardware architects, Firmware architects, OS & Virtualization developers, Commercial and Community OS & Virtualization partners, and customer development teams

  • Provide technical mentorship to engineers

  • Understand and present technical status updates to upper managers, peers, and engineer teams

  • Give innovative technical insight to development strategies, priorities, and approaches

  • Work with key data center partners to prioritize and optimize server deployments at scale.

 

Preferred Experience:

A successful candidate will employ proven software methodologies, system software design expertise, technical leadership, horizontal management, and well-honed organization skills across multiple teams and companies to ensure timely delivery of product goals and robust solutions. Candidates must possess the technical proficiency, seasoned presentation skills, and interpersonal confidence to clearly represent design ideas, sophisticated problem descriptions and innovative solutions with experienced internal and external audiences.

  • Deep understanding and application of operating system concepts, x86-64 architecture, virtualization, security, IO, containers, orchestration!

  • Strong analytical skills and debug methodology encouraged

  • System-level performance analysis

  • Deep understanding of operating systems concepts, data structures, x86-64 architecture, and virtualization

  • Strong organization and communication skills with a proven track record of project delivery

  • Linux kernel internals experience and open source development a plus

  • Windows OS internals and development a plus

  • VMware internals and development a plus

 

Academic Credentials:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or another relevant field; Master's Degree preferred

 

Location:
