Field Application Engineer (GPU) - Seattle - 56925

 

Solutions Architects help AMD drive a new era of computing into the datacenter by engaging with key end users and independent software partners to demonstrate how AMD technology differentiators address the needs of their business in real world usage scenarios. The Solutions Architect is responsible for providing technical support for AMD Business Development Executives (BDE) and commercial end user accounts within their defined region or vertical market. This candidate will be accountable to the commercial sales team and the field engineering director for all aspects of technical engagements required to support sales and account objectives in the region. As part of a team of solution architects the ideal candidate will also occasionally provide training to teammates and assist them with their own unique challenges.


The Solution Architect at AMD will:

  • Provide technical assistance to sales in the design and integration of customer applications using AMD based datacenter solutions
  • Partner with sales in determining possible applications of AMD based products and solutions to meet customer requirements
  • Partner with other AMD and vendor subject matter experts to build specific customer solutions
  • Analyze vendor product solutions and evaluate product performance based on customer needs
  • Install and test solutions in-house, as required, to ensure successful deployments and evaluations
  • Lead technical design sessions; architect and document technical solutions that are aligned with end-user objectives
  • Provide hands-on, expert-level technical assistance to end-users
  • Articulate AMD based technology offerings across multiple market verticals
  • Conduct technical presentations for customers, partners and prospects
  • Design and manage the execution of evaluation plans to ensure a quality solution is delivered
  • Be a credible subject matter expert to end users on direct and indirect product capabilities
  • Capture a solid understanding of the competitive landscape and clearly articulate the technical differentiation and value proposition associated with AMD versus its competitors
  • Other related duties as assigned

 

This opening is for a Solutions Architect to support GPU applications at key datacenter customers within the Pacific Northwest. Established engineering relationships with customers is a strong plus, as is a solid background in cloud computing, VDI and machine intelligence.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

This position requires an individual with excellent organizational and communication skills (written, verbal and presentation skills) with a good balance of hardware, system architecture and software expertise. The successful candidate must demonstrate both the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. They must also demonstrate good time management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Strong internal (sales, marketing, engineering) and external (customer) relationships are required and the candidate must demonstrate a history of success in developing and maintaining technical relationships.

  • Must be a team player with excellent collaborative skills and superior written and oral communication skills
  • Must demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage complex problems involving multi-disciplined, cross-functional teams
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent
  • At least 8 years of experience as a senior level engineer (or equivalent technical role)
  • At least 4 years of solution architecture experience or system architect experience
  • At least 4 years of experience in GPU-based high-performance compute, desktop virtualization or machine intelligence / analytics
  • Hands-on experience with Python, C/C++, Linux kernel drivers and OpenCL or CUDA
  • Hands-on experience with VDI applications and hypervisors such as ESXi and Horizon View, XenServer, XenApp, XenDesktop, HDX, Hyper-V, SolidWorks, Siemens NX and Creo
  • Experience with Caffe, TensorFlow, MxNet and PyTorch a plus
  • Server platform-level knowledge of PCI-e including peer-to-peer communication and SR-IOV a plus
  • Hands on experience in the setup and configuration of server systems including both hardware and software/OS installation
  • Must be willing to travel up to 25%
