Director Manufacturing Engineering
THE ROLE:
This is an Asia-based, Director of Manufacturing position, responsible for developing and managing continuous improvement initiatives at supply chain partners in support of AMD’s board assembly and systems integration business. The scope of your responsibilities will include working with, or leading, a team of engineers to achieve and sustain world-class manufacturing & test processes, engage the Contract Manufacturers in continuous yield improvement initiatives, ensure accountability at the partner sites, manage projects which achieve optimal manufacturing cost and efficiencies, and play your part in launching new products on schedule. Provide updates to AMD leadership on manufacturing and product related issues.
THE PERSON:
- Must be able to analyze and resolve complex process development and ongoing support issues of a broad scope using independent judgment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees.
- Eagerness to operate in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Possess project management skills, detail orientation, and strong analytical skills.
- Ability to adapt to change and learn quickly.
- Familiar with factory operations (IQC/SMT/PTH/Assembly/Testing/Packaging/ESD) and systems integration
- Knowledge of process management techniques such as Gage R&R, six-sigma and lean manufacturing
- Able to work under pressure to deadlines
- Good communication skills and the ability to work with geographically distributed engineering and manufacturing teams
- Chinese language skills
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Initially work as an individual contributor but have the capabilities and ambition to advance to a people management role.
- Manage manufacturing cost analysis and improvements with our suppliers.
- Lead projects for new manufacturing processes or technologies.
- Manage CM partners on zero defect quality for board assembly & systems integration
- Ensure CMs have the desired technical capabilities to support our growing business
- Develop manufacturing plans and establish procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations to ensure that products conform to AMD quality standards. Lead or participate in APQPs for new products.
- Escalation point for board technology and manufacturing issues in production. Drive daily meetings with all stakeholders until issues are resolved, holding the CMs accountable for any manufacturing-induced issues.
- Solicits internal and external feedback in support of continuous improvement projects for board assembly and systems integration
- Identify areas of greatest opportunity for improvement; align operational dashboards to track KPI’s to annual goals & objectives ensuring operations targets are being achieved.
- Support the onboarding of acquisition teams; Assist them to align to AMD manufacturing & test practices, processes, tools and systems.
- Provide project coordination and support for key manufacturing projects
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Profound experience leading an engineering or technical team. This role requires both technical and business acumen.
- Experience in executing complex problem-solving techniques related to design/technical issues.
- Experience with quality systems, practices and methodologies such as APQP, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TCM.
- Experience with Microsoft standard apps (i.e. Office)
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
B.S. degree with manufacturing engineering, technical management, or related experience.
