The Role:

The wireless IP group at AMD is looking for a smart, passionate and resourceful tools engineer to join the larger software team. In this position, you will be responsible for developing customer facing tool(s) that run on Linux/PC and will be used to download, configure and tune firmware that goes into our embedded platform. The ideal candidate would be a hands-on engineer who is not only proficient in coding, but can also understand the big picture and come up with a tools strategy that spans internal developer, external customer and manufacturing needs. You should be a self-starter with good communication and interpersonal skills.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain and customize a set of tools (both graphical and command-line) that will be used by internal developers, external customers and in production line
  • Work with the firmware development team to define and implement the communication channel/protocol for configuring the firmware as well as getting debug log information back
  • Create an intuitive user interface for the external customer facing tool by collecting inputs from Application/Customer support team
  • Ensure robustness/quality of the tools by developing automated unit tests and adding them to CIT system
  • Collaborate with the software QA team and firmware team to define the system tests for the overall software package (tools + firmware)
  • Understand user pain points and make the tools as simple and intuitive to use as possible

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Electrical/Computer Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience developing command-line and graphical tools that can be run cross-platform, preferably for embedded firmware products
  • Proficient in Python, C, and shell scripts
  • Strong knowledge and prior experience developing/using PCIe and USB drivers on Linux or PC
  • Good communication (verbal and written) and documentation skills

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Java/Javascript
  • Familiarity with networking protocols (802.11 standards)
  • Working knowledge of SPI, I2C and UART
  • Prior experience working with embedded ARM (cortex-M, cortex-R) products and JTAG/SWD protocols
