(Contract) ASIC Design Verification (DV) Engineer

The Role:

This is a 12-month contract position.

 

We the Video HW IP/Solution Group at the AMD Markham site are looking for an experienced ASIC Design Verification (DV) Engineer to fill this Member of Technical Staff role.

 

You will join a vibrant established hardware (HW) IP team developing video encoder & video decoder HW IP (VCN)! This is a multifaceted role that extends beyond verification to helping optimize the HW solution.

 

We will require you to acquire background knowledge of the VCN HW functionality, VCN HW C-model, and existing HW verification test suites. Your initial task will be to work, as part of a team, on improving an existing working VCN HW design & modifying infrastructure to support a new set of tools through debug & validation. You will be actively involved in running functional test suites for all functionality (decode, encode, etc.) on the RTL HW design & debugging & resolving any functional failures to ensure the HW design is fully functional.

 

You may also be part of a verification team, collaboratively executing on developing, implementing, and debugging a comprehensive test library and suite of functional tests to validate new features & complete end-to-end video HW solution functionality. This would include validating that test scenarios run on a HW C-model function accurately and as intended. It may also involve debugging these same end-to-end test scenarios on the HW design. Realizing full functional coverage of the HW design functionality is the goal.

The Person:

  • An organized, hardworking self-motivated with a strong interest in HW design verification
  • Be a self-starter with a pro-active approach, taking ownership in driving tasks to completion
  • Strong problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work both independently and in a multi-discipline team and global setting as a solution enabler

Key Responsibilities:

  • modifying & debugging the VCN HW infrastructure environment to support a new set of tools
  • validate & debug the existing test suite of an existing VCN HW design in a new environment to confirm accurate functionality & identify test & coverage improvements
  • execute verification plans for new Video HW features to implement new test cases, test scenarios, and required test library changes to enable validating required functionality & then perform hands-on debug of these scenarios on the HW model to validate & confirm correct operation.
  • Use or adapt test libraries, emulation models, and test cases from existing IP.
  • Work with ASIC design team (HW, FW and SW) to debug & tackle test failures at IP level
  • Automate and improve test suite verification efficiency and test suite coverage

Preferred Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years (ideally 6+ years) of hands-on industry design verification experience in HW ASIC product development
  • Excellent debugging skills, root cause analysis and attention to detail
  • Strong C/C++ software development experience
  • Prior knowledge in HW IP testing
  • Experience with simulation debug of HW using waveforms and other design verification tools.
  • Strong understanding of video codecs such as H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 is highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of hardware principles including Verilog RTL, UVM, test bench and HW verification

Academic Credentials:

Minimum BSEE/CE, or equivalent degree in related engineering fields or computer science
