ASIC Design Verification (DV) Engineer

The Role:

We, the Video HW IP/Solution Group at our AMD Markham site, are looking for a technical verification leader of the Video IP ASIC HW verification team for video encode feature & end-to-end solution testing, and coverage-based validation.
This is a multifaceted role that focuses on verification, but can also include related & collaborative development of testing infrastructure, hardware modelling, firmware, and HW designs.

This position seeks a highly experienced ASIC Design Verification (DV) engineer to fill this Senior Member of Technical Staff (SMTS) level role.

You will join a vibrant established hardware (HW) IP team developing video encoder & video decoder HW IP (VCN).
We will require you to first acquire knowledge of AMD's VCN IP video HW core, HW C-model, test suite, and verification methodology.

The position requires working closely with the HW modelling teams, Firmware developers, HW designers, HW block verification teams, and firmware developers to deliver test suites providing high functional coverage of the HW model & HW design.
You will help craft and refine a detailed end-to-end performance test suite to validate HW performance in real-world system use case configurations (both typical and stressful) and have deep involvement in helping tune the tests & HW to eliminate bottlenecks & ensure optimal performance.

The Person:

  •     An organized, enthusiastic self-motivated with a strong interest in verification methodologies

  •     Be a self-starter, pro-active, and take ownership to drive tasks to completion

  •     Good communication skills (verbal and written) with strong problem-solving, and attention to detail

  •     Ability to work in a multi-discipline team and global setting as a solution enabler

Key Responsibilities:

Your primary responsibility will involve technically leading a verification team to:

  • understand new features and HW details,
  • define detailed plans of test scenarios required (understanding interactions & inter-dependencies between features, and solution-level end-to-end usecases & performance requirements),
  • implement tests,
  • debug and validate correctness & correct functionality of those test scenarios on both a HW model and the HW design, and
  • develop & use functional coverage & code coverage metrics to drive thorough verification.

You will help enable the success of the verification team.

  • Leverage your technical expertise to suggest & implement changes & new ideas to optimize the verification team's execution.
  • You will also get early engagement on new developments, do leading investigative work, & be expected to provide feedback, do effort scoping & develop technical plans for executing on new initiatives.

  • Work collaboratively with the modelling team to understand new HW feature details and requirements & impact on the existing HW and translate these into detailed verification plans for each of these new HW features. Drive implementation & debug of the defined test scenarios on the model
  • Develop detailed functional verification test plans, and performance test plans for new Video IP features, by understanding the features & the interactions between the existing HW features, considering both real-world usage scenarios and high functional coverage
  • Develop test library software, test cases and execute hands-on testing, debug, and validation of all HW model functionality using these tests
  • Work with ASIC design team (HW, FW and SW) to debug & resolve functional test failures at IP level
  • Develop, adapt, and verify IP performance tests to ensure real-world HW performance usecase targets are met
  • Automate and improve test suite verification efficiency and test suite coverage

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience technically leading a verification team
  • At least 15 years of hands-on industry design verification experience in HW ASIC product development (candidates with 10+ years of demanding hands-on verification experience that can be proven can apply and will be considered)
  • Proven experience thoroughly validating multiple HW designs using functional coverage and code coverage & driving closure to 100% coverage of those HW design
  • Strong C/C++ software development experience or equivalent application of object oriented programming concepts
  • UVM development & verification experience
  • Strong understanding of hardware principles including Verilog RTL, HW test bench, and HW verification
  • Strong debugging skills, root cause analysis and attention to detail
  • Experience with simulation debug of HW using waveforms and other design verification tools.
