Board Validation Engineer

 

THE ROLE:

The Datacenter Graphics and Accelerated Computing Validation Team is looking for dynamic and energetic Board Validation Engineers to join our growing team. As a key contributor to the success of AMD’s IP, you will be part of a leading team to drive and enhance AMD’s abilities to deliver the highest quality, industry-leading technologies used for Datacenter, Machine Learning, and High-Performance Computing. The team fosters and encourages continuous technical innovation to showcase successes as well as facilitate continuous career development.

 

THE PERSON:

A self-starter with the ability to execute complex test plans independently and collaborate with others to resolve problems found. As a validation engineer, you are expected to work with experienced engineers and also guide junior engineers, you should feel comfortable working in a lab environment.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a Board Validation Engineer, you will drive the planning, validation, and debug of the board hardware component of new upcoming AMD products, while working with Board design teams, key architects, and other validation team members

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Define and execute end-to-end test plan and validation strategies for board validation.
  • Debug issues found during pre-silicon, bring-up, validation, and production phases of SOC programs
  • Lead collaborative test approach with multiple teams, and tracking test execution to make sure all features are validated and optimized on time
  • Reviewing converter topologies and selecting power components like PWM controllers, power transistors and passive filter elements such as magnetics and capacitors;
  • Executing extensive preliminary design validation
  • Review schematics as well as working with PCB layout and mechanical teams in developing a robust validation plan.
  • debugging new designs and identifying compliance with original specifications by comprehensive laboratory work executed in the context of exhaustive test plans
  • Supporting other teams with power-related issues during the characterization and launch phases of new graphics cards.
  • Support on customer platforms as requested by customer support teams.
  • Provide meaningful execution and issue update to program management.

 

 

 IDEAL CANDIDATE

 

  • Excellent understanding in the fundamentals of power electronics with special emphasis on multiphase power converters
  • Demonstrated ability to work with oscilloscopes, multi-meters, current probes, electronic loads, and protocol analyzers as well as adept at intuitive reasoning to explain and correct unexpected results
  • Proficient at documenting experimental results in a structured manner for ease of reference
  • Ability to use circuit simulations tools such as PSPICE, LTSPICE, and SIMPLIS
  • Strong analytical skills for test creation and debug
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Must excel in a dynamic team working environment
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to independently drive tasks to completion
  • Leadership and mentoring skills a definite asset
  • Graphics experience a plus

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering
