System Emulation and System/Power Management IP Engineer - 96002

The Role:

Our Semi-Custom Business Unit System Emulation Team is seeking an upbeat, experienced System Emulation and System/Power Management IP Engineer to join our growing team. Past products include game consoles such as the PS5 and Xbox One Series X.

You will work closely with our customers who are developing AMD processor, chipset, and graphics based systems. You will execute and perform debug of issues alongside validation and IP teams on emulation and post-silicon in order to meet product development landmarks. Additionally, you will develop and expand infrastructure to enable increased coverage and testing of these system IPs in a pre-silicon environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Defining and executing pre-silicon System/Power Management IP coverage on semi-custom PC-like systems in Synopsis, Cadence, and Mentor emulator systems, including the design and integration of required infrastructure for this enablement
  • Debug and support of system issues found in emulation models, infrastructure, firmware, hardware, or software during pre-silicon emulation, bring-up, validation, and production phases
  • Providing root cause analysis and mentorship for the closure of issues to both internal and customer-facing/external teams
  • Reviewing and planning dependencies, successes, while coordinating with upstream and downstream teams
  • Lead and drive collaborative discussions to gain resolution on technical issues to improve AMD’s capabilities in system emulation and various IPs, including tool and script development, technical, and methodology improvements

Preferred Experience:

  • Minimum 6 years of experience with low level emulation execution of SoCs and embedded systems and infrastructures
  • In-depth knowledge of system architecture and concepts, including proficiency in x86 and ARM architectures their functionality, and debug practices
  • Strong understanding of System and Power Management Architectures and Implementations
  • Extensive experience with emulation systems, model, and infrastructure debug and execution, including experience with industry standard emulator systems
  • Knowledge of Verilog, C, assembly, TCL/TK, Ruby, and other scripting languages
  • Working debug knowledge of Windows and Linux-based operating systems and technologies, as well as their needs and limitations in a pre-silicon environment
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills and pronounced attention to detail with the ability to grasp new technical concepts quickly
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills while working in a dynamic team environment


  • Extensive experience with board and system level debug, including experience with industry standard busses such as DDR, PCIe, I2C, USB, SATA, etc, and how to interpret their transactions in an emulation environment
  • Strong knowledge of firmware components such as BIOS and its subsystems, their interactions at the system level, and common failure points within
  • Technical understanding of Graphics, Display, Multimedia, PCIe, System Management, Power Management, or Security/Crypto architecture & design
  • Knowledge and use of standard debuggers, programmers, and related tools and methodologies (JTAG, Dstream, Lauderbach, etc.)

Academic Credentials:

Bachelor, Master's or PhD degree in Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering, or related degrees
