Title: Analog IP Characterization Engineer


The Person:

  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to lead, train, and coach other Engineers
  • Must innovate on lab procedures and techniques
  • Candidate must have strong written and oral communication skills to work well with peers in Markham and other AMD sites.



  • Lead IP characterization projects from early pre-silicon stage to final reports
  • Work with cross-functional teams on pre-silicon validation planning
  • Characterization of analog circuits from test-chips to full product implementation
  • Collect & analyze performance data, automate laboratory tests through computer control/software development
  • Drive bring-up/debug efforts and resolve post-silicon issues
  • Guide Engineers on execution of characterization plans and debugs
  • Work with equipment vendors to understand leading edge measurement techniques
  • Continually innovate more efficient test techniques to save on cost and time


Required knowledge/skills:

  • Knowledgeable in CMOS IC/Analog/Mixed signal/RF/electronics
  • Strong knowledge of high-speed CMOS SerDes, AFE and I/O architecture
  • Strong understanding of leading-edge semiconductor technology, CMOS device specifications and performance metrics
  • Strong knowledge of signal integrity principles, thorough understanding of jitter and signal equalization techniques
  • Lab experience with leading edge Oscilloscopes, BERTs, Network Analyzers, Spectrum/Phase Noise Analyzers, etc.
  • Knowledge of PLL architecture and specifications
  • Knowledgeable with board/package signal integrity principles
  • Knowledgeable with PC interfaces: PCI Express, USB, DP/HDMI, etc.
  • Programming/computer skills
  • Knowledge of PC architecture


Education: Advanced degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering
