Manager of Technical Staff (96882)


The PCBA Manager of Technical Staff is responsible for implementing new products and sustaining existing products at various Contract Manufacturing (CM) sites. Drive innovations to take AMD’s assembly processes to the next level for our growing graphics and computing businesses. The scope of your responsibilities will include working with, or leading, a team of engineers to achieve and sustain world-class manufacturing processes, drive continuous yield improvements, and play your part in launching new products on schedule. Act as liaison with internal customers and assembly partners for engineering issues. Provide updates to AMD leadership on manufacturing and product related issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will work as an individual contributor but have the capabilities and ambition to advance into a leadership role.
  • Early engagement with CM’s on AMD products.
  • Creating and managing operational procedures for AMD and manufacturing partners.
  • Ensure efficient manufacturing processes are implemented, and maintained, at our CM site’s.
  • Drive product and process quality improvements. This will include both new and sustaining products.
  • Assist with manufacturing cost analysis and improvements with our suppliers.
  • Work with extended teams to reduce customer returns and lower RMA rates.
  • Manage regular audits of CM factories to ensure stable processes and continuous yield improvements.
  • Work with design teams on DFM review to ensure that new products can be efficiently manufactured, and lead to improvements in cost and yield.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationship with other departments.
  • Lead projects for new manufacturing processes or technologies.
  • Think about what this person will accomplish during the first 3 months, 6 months, one year and so on.


  • Hands-on experience in a PCBA manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading an engineering or technical team.
  • Experience with quality systems and quality tools like 8D and SPC.
  • Familiar with factory operation (IQC/SMT/PTH/Assembly/Testing/Packaging/ESD).
  • Management-level communication skills.
  • Able to work under pressure to deadlines.
  • Experience reading/using gerber files and schematics.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with geographically distributed engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Experience with Microsoft standard apps (i.e. Office).

Preferred Experience

  • Proven experince in Manufacturing or Process Engineering Management in a leading edge technology (Tier 1 or Fortune 500) environment
  • Managment of technical team is a plus
  • Training or certifications in Control Plans, PFMEA, APQP, IPC standards, and environmental compliance.
  • Knowledge of process management techniques such as Gage R&R, six-sigma and lean manufacturing.
  • PC and server architecture knowledge.
  • CAD knowledge is an advantage.
  • Experience preparing ISO Documentation.

Academic credentials

  • Technical or Engineering B.S. degree.
