Site Lab Manager


The Role:

This role will involve all facets of R&D lab management: implementing new lab management system, creating, and maintaining processes and tools, providing ongoing support/leadership from day-to-day labs operations to Long Range Labs Planning to ensure labs effectiveness and efficiency.  The successful candidate will also drive a schedule for business planning for Markham labs to help ensure that lab growth aligns to corporate strategy. You will represent all Markham Engineering teams, but work across several supporting functions including Facilities, Real Estate, Procurement and Finance to ensure accurate data and functional alignment at every stage of the project. You will blend your project, change, and teams’ management skills to create and execute plans and provide regular updates for an executive audience. You will lead Markham Lab Committee, participate in AMD Global Lab Committee and AMD Lab Strategy Team


Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive implementation of lab capacity management system from requirements definition through pilot, deployment in production, and ongoing use, including system administration, reporting, user training and support
  • Collect and manage lab requests from engineering teams, propose and coordinate solutions, work with Facilities, Global Real Estate, Finance, Procurement, and AMD executives on implementation
  • Drive Long Range Planning process for Markham labs
  • Provide frequent & concise updates to Lab Strategy Core team Markham Site Leadership


Preferred Experience:

  • 5 -10 years labs management experience in technology/manufacturing industry
  • Experience with Project Management, Change and Process Management
  • Experience planning and driving implementation of IT systems, a bonus
  • Self-starter, with demonstrated record of taking initiative and getting results
  • Effective communication on all levels
  • Fostering collaborative and friendly environment
  • Ability to collaborate cross functionally



  • Organizational, interpersonal skills, influencing. Ability to proactively involve others in planning, decision making and implementation efforts
  • Familiarity with technology: computer HW, lab work, IT networks, data centers
  • Building (Facilities) management: space/layouts, power, cooling, health and safety
  • Knowledge of lab usage, lab infrastructure, capacity planning
  • Financials, costing, budgeting
  • Time management, prioritization
  • MS Office, Excel proficiency


Academic Credentials:

  • Undergraduate degree. Graduate degree a bonus
  • PMP designation is bonus
  • Lean, six sigma certification a bonus
