Software Development Engineer - 125801


The Role:

The AMD Multimedia software team is on the lookout for a dynamic, upbeat software engineer to design, development, validation and maintenance of Multimedia Firmware, Device Drivers, APIs, SDKs and Apps for current and future generations of SCBU (Semi-Custom Business Unit) product.

Key Responsibilities:

We are seeking an Engineer to design and implement device driver and firmware and applications for AMD SCBU products. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical guidance based on product specifications and HW core IP’s
  • Define project milestone deliverables for each development phase
  • Design and implement Multimedia functionality to support new HW, SW or OS specifications
  • Reproduce, debug and resolve firmware/driver/application issues with specific hardware and software contexts
  • Design and develop test applications and quality assurance programs


Preferred Experience:

  • 10+ years working experience
  • Strong C/C++ programming skills
  • Extensive Multimedia (video codecs, color formats, video algorithms) experience
  • Video CODEC decode/encode, HEVC, H.264, VC-1, MPEG4, VP9, SVC
  • Working knowledge of encoder rate-control
  • Video processing and enhancement algorithms
  • Object Oriented Programming knowledge and skills
  • Embedded Programming knowledge and skills
  • Experience with x86 / ARM CPU architecture and System-On-Chip bring-up
  • Kernel Mode Debugging skills, experience with WinDbg, SoftICE, etc.
  • Solving problems, ability to triage and root cause issue
  • Leadership and mentoring skills


Additional Preferred Experience/Assets Include:

  • OS, Kernel, DDK, SDK, Multimedia, Direct3D, OpenGL, OpenCL knowledge and/or experience
  • DirectShow (DShow), DirectX-VA(DXVA 1/2, DXVA-HD), XvMC, OpenMAX, VAAPI, VDPAU
  • Experience on embedded software optimization
  • Experience with cloud based encode/decode solutions
  • Familiarity with Perforce, Github, Jira
  • Familiarity with visual studio tools
  • Be able to independently drive tasks to completion


Academic Credentials:

  • University Degree or Post Graduate Degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or math
