As a Senior Technical Writer for the Radeon Technology Group (RTG) at AMD, you will be working closely with graphics engineering, product managers, and marketing teams to plan, create, and edit chip-, board-, and system-level specification documents, product advisories, application notes, and reference guides for GPU products intended for technical audiences. Documents will be created by interviewing subject matter experts (SMEs), gathering information from various records systems, and analyzing product and feature requirements documents. You will also work with software teams to develop UI strings and help with content for the Radeon Settings graphics driver software suite.

Your job as a writer is to identify gaps in content and inconsistencies in data as well as to review, copyedit, and publish documents using DITA XML in a Content Management System (CMS). Strong understanding of structured, topic-based, and task-based authoring is a must. The ideal candidate would be an independent and self-motivated individual who can prioritize and deliver multiple projects at a time and can adapt to changing requirements and schedules. This role requires that you possess strong critical-thinking skills and provides you with the opportunity to excel as the sole writer on the team. You must also have a passion for technology, learning, and continuous improvement. A strong understanding of the documentation lifecycle is also required.

AMD provides solutions to customers that are geared to meet the accelerated graphics requirements for their systems. The candidate must have an in-depth knowledge of the semi-conductor industry. Additionally, the candidate will be required to demonstrate the understanding of how the various components and elements of graphics work within a system. Particularly the interfacing between hardware, software and firmware, and how those areas translate into respective technical documentation. You will be joining a team that comprises of various specializations of Program Management, Graphics Enablement, Board Design, Silicon Design, Software Development and System Engineering. You must be able to work closely with these individuals and contribute to the overall technical documentation release plan, which also factors collaboration with staff from sites in Markham, Shanghai, Taiwan and India. Candidate must possess:

  • 1-2 years of technical writing experience in a technical field (Engineering or Computer Science background preferred)
  • Excellent writing, copyediting, and communication skills
  • Ability to deliver results with attention to detail and sense of urgency
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and adapt to changing deadlines and schedules
  • Understanding of the DITA framework, CCMS tools, and XML editors
  • Quick learner with an ability to understand components that make up a gaming, workstation and server platform with integrated and discrete processing solutions.
  • Ability to work with multiple output formats, covering pdf, HTML, and context-sensitive online helps
  • Self-starter, must be comfortable working with minimum support
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, XSL, Perl, and other scripting languages
  • Experience working with version control systems, SharePoint, JIRA, Confluence
