THE ROLE:

This is an individual contributor role and reports to the Senior Manager of Tax, in Markham and is part of nearly 30-person international tax team.  The role is supported by our Global Tax Service center in Malaysia.   The position is multifaceted with plenty of opportunity to learn and grow in both Canadian and international taxes.  Assist the Senior Manager in tax reporting and compliance responsibilities for Canada, the US, and international locations.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparation and review of Canadian corporate income tax returns, other tax filings such as T106 & T1134.
  • Preparation and review of all work papers to support Canadian income tax return filings.
  • Assist with the US GAAP income tax provision as required.
  • Manage and communicate with accounting and other team members to obtain and analyze information as required.
  • Assist in managing Canadian tax audits, including analytical support, collection of information and preparation of responses.
  • Preparation and review of quarterly income tax balance sheet accounts.
  • Preparation and review of all work papers and calculate Canada SR&ED investment tax credit.
  • Preparation of all work papers and calculate Alberta SR&ED tax credit.
  • Other tax related compliance work including cross-border withholding taxes, HST and other excise taxes.
  • Understand, analyze, research and document tax transactions.
  • Assist in quarterly tax provision reporting of US GAAP and SOX control documentation.
  • Preparation and review of quarterly and annual deferred tax asset and deferred tax liability schedules and summarise in memos to file.
  • Liaise with international locations for preparation and review of foreign income tax accounting and income tax returns.
  • Manage workflow to and from AMD’s Global Tax Service (GTS) in Malaysia.
  • Assist with special projects as required.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

 

  • BS Accounting and Masters in Tax (or tax certificate) from an accredited university.
  • Certified public accountant (CPA) strongly preferred (can be inactive).
  • Eight years of relevant tax total experience, including three years minimum “Big Four” public accounting firm tax consulting experience and three years minimum of experience with a multinational corporation.
  • Proven analytical skills and systematic problem solving.
  • Experience and knowledge in US GAAP accounting, preparation of US tax return, US tax provision, international taxes are extra assets.
  • Working experience with SAP and Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point or similar tools. Knowledge in tax prep and Corptax tax return compliance systems are extra assets.
  • Flexible work schedule needed to overlap with US and Malaysia, and International teams.
  • Detail oriented and hard-working nature and ability to work independently. Ability to work with colleagues and business units in different time zone.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.  Three writing samples requested
