GPU Architectural Modeling Engineer/Scientist

The Role: 

The Architectural Modeling (AM) team provides a timed simulation of all graphics products at AMD. Our tools are utilized to predict the performance of the next-gen product across different GPU families and to support early SW stack bring-up.

 

As a member of the AM team you will: 

  • Define the Future of GPU: Data from AM simulations is used by AMD GPU architects to identify areas of potential enhancement in our next-gen products. The AM team develops a variety of tools and datapoints that make finding performance problems easier. You will work hand-in-hand with architects to define the future of AMD GPU products.
  • Discover GPU Architecture: As an AM engineer you will have the opportunity to work on the entire graphics and compute pipeline of our world beating products. Gain experience in all areas of GPU architecture.
  • Enhance State-of-the-Art Simulations: AM is a C++ simulator, with Python postscripts for data visualization. As an AM engineer you can leverage your expertise in these languages to improve simulation runtime, memory consumption, and complexity.
  • Drive Reduction in Product Timescales: Here at AMD finding ways to reduce timescales and beat our competitors to market is key. The AM simulation tools are central to that. Through early-stage support of new architectures we can give our Driver & Compiler teams a valuable kick-start well ahead of RTL being available.

 

The Candidate:

As a GPU modeling engineer, you will work in a hardware/software codesign environment to craft industry leading simulation platforms and tools. You will have a strong voice in the next generation of AMD products and get to learn and contribute to the entire graphics pipeline and software/hardware stack. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled software designer and engineer, who is proficient in C++, with a passion for hardware architecture. Knowledge of GPU hardware and the efficient use of discrete GPUs, APUs, and mobile devices is an advantage. The candidate will work in a big team environment on a variety of opportunities, so teamwork and drive are essential.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect, model and analyze hardware and software features to improve product performance, abilities, and cost.
  • Develop tools and algorithms to identify and eliminate performance limiters.
  • Design, implement, assess, document and test new features for next-gen products.
  • Be a developer, leader, and owner of the Architectural Modeling Tool.

 

Preferred Experience:

The ideal candidate will have experience and/or knowledge of a number of the following areas...

  • Programming skills in C++ and python.
  • Hardware architecture experience.
  • Modeling, simulation and/or emulation tools.
  • Computer graphics theory and related mathematics.
  • GPU architecture, drivers and/or compilers.
  • GPU general-purpose computing.
  • D3D, Vulkan and OpenGL graphics applications.
  • OpenCL/CUDA/ROCm development.

 

Academic Credentials

We are looking for new graduate as well as experienced applicants. Bachelors, Masters, and PhD with different years of industry experience in relevant field.
