Graphics System Architect

 

THE ROLE:

The Radeon Technologies Group (RTG) is instrumental to AMD’s success. We create innovative hardware solutions and deliver world class GPUs. The High-Performance Graphics Project Architecture team, part of RTG, is looking for a new team member to work on system level architecture for Graphics IP.  This means you will develop a broad view of the graphics pipeline and compute logic inside the GPU.

 

Eventually you may be the lead Graphics Architect for discrete GPUs or high performance Semi-Custom Business Unit projects like consoles.  In the short term this role encompasses one or more other responsibilities like those listed below.

A self-motivated graphics enthusiast. An effective team player who focuses on collaboration, team building, mentoring, and furthering team success.  Communication skills are very important, and you should be comfortable making decisions where only partial data is available.

 

Graphics System Architect

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with architecture, micro-architecture, design, workload analysis, and performance verification teams to drive Power-Performance-Area (PPA) analysis and optimizations
  • Translate product requirements into tasks for the execution team
  • Write specifications, ensuring the broader team knows what is necessary to create a great product
  • Design new GPU algorithms to improve performance per area for rendering and compute workloads
  • Provide experimental/proof-of-concept design changes for proving out potential solutions for PPA improvement, or proving out new PPA features as well as collecting and analyzing PPA data
  • Drive PPA exploration, summarize key data, perform root cause analysis, and coordinate reaching closure among different teams
  • Provide micro-architecture level proposals or review proposals from other sources for PPA optimizations
  • Identify complex technical problems, or review new features, discuss with the team, and provide possible solutions

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Excellent experience in delivering innovative, efficient GPU architecture
  • ASIC / VLSI experience spanning architecture, micro-architecture, performance analysis, power optimization, timing convergence, and silicon debug. 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, along with attention to details
  • Proven program/project experience, balancing trade-offs for complexity, schedule, budget, and silicon cost
  • Strong communication, time management, and presentation skills
  • Effective team player who focuses on collaboration, team building, and team success

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree with emphasis in Electrical Engineering, Computer architecture, or Computer Science with 7+ years of relevant experience preferred
  • Master of Science degree with emphasis in Electrical Engineering, Computer architecture, or Computer Science with 5+ years of relevant experience preferred
  • PhD degree with emphasis in Electrical Engineering, Computer architecture, or Computer Science with 2+ years of relevant experience preferred
