We are looking for individuals with a background in radio product development to join our Field Applications Engineering (FAE) team in North America within AMD’s Data Center and Communications Group. 


As a Wireless Communications Specialist FAE you will be a key member of the communications sales team in North America, acting as a technical lead and key customer interface for AMD solutions involving radio access network technologies and adjacent communications infrastructure.  An ideal candidate for this role will be an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual who wants to work on the cutting edge of 5G (and beyond!) technologies and proactively engaged with customers and partners on a daily basis.


Job Responsibilities:  

  • Wireless/Radio Specialist FAE with focus on Tier 1-2 wireless communications customers in North America leveraging AMD products and solutions which include RFSoC, Versal and Telco cards  
  • Provide architectural recommendations to satisfy customers’ requirements w.r.t. overall system performance  
  • Extend pre and post-sales support to customers and generalist FAEs leveraging AMD products in wireless/radio systems
    • Entails tasks ranging from early opportunity discovery through to advising on implementation issues, including conducting benchmarks, Proof-of-Concepts, performance optimizations, system partitioning, modification of reference designs, targeted trainings, etc.
  • Conduct workshops and deliver presentations around AMD wireless communications solutions and methodologies  
  • Work with internal marketing and developments teams to guide future product direction, address short-term solution gaps and facilitate accurate competitive analysis and positioning  
  • Develop relationships with and become trusted advisor to system engineers & architects in our key accounts  
  • Work with 3rd party ecosystem partners to support mutual customers


Job Qualifications:  

  • BS or MS Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent field/discipline
  • 3+ years’ industry experience working in support of radio product development (or adjacent systems) involving embedded hardware components (e.g., FPGAs, ASICs, SoCs and/or DSPs)
  • Knowledge of 4G/5G systems and corresponding 3GPP specifications
  • Strong command of digital communications principles such as signals, modulation, demodulation, communication links, synchronization, and gain control
  • Proficiency in fundamental communications DSP algorithms such as mixing, re-sampling, digital up conversion, digital down conversion, channel filtering and DFT/FFT
  • Familiarity with radio system performance figures of merit, such as EVM and PAE
  • Experience with HW/SW development languages such as RTL, C/C++, Python and/or Linux development
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to methodically debug complex problems
  • Excellent communication and organization skills, verbal and written; fluent English required
    • Aptitude to communicate clearly across a range of audiences from high-level management to deep technical
  • Ability to identify a customer’s key care-abouts and thus contribute to overall solution strategy and success
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and keep track of activities
  • Team player with “can do” attitude
  • Willingness to travel in North America


Additional advantageous knowledge/skills a highly-qualified candidate will possess include:

  • Knowledge of emerging RAN architecture topologies and standards, such as Open RAN (O-RAN) and/or virtualization frameworks (vRAN, etc.)
  • Knowledge of commercial RF frequency spectrum bands and allocations
  • Familiarity with channel coding algorithms such as Turbo, LDPC and Polar
  • Familiarity with advanced digital front-end techniques such as Digital Pre-Distortion and Crest Factor Reduction
  • Familiarity with multiple access radio technologies such as spread spectrum, multi-band, OFDM, MIMO and beamforming
  • Familiarity with ADC and DAC technologies and key figures of merit (sample rates, bandwidth, SFDR, ACLR, NSD, etc.)
  • Familiarity with power amplifier technologies (e.g., GaN-based, LDMOS, etc.)
  • Experience with RF line-up debug / lab work and associated test equipment (signal generators, VSAs, etc.)
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience with AMD/Xilinx RFSoC technology or competing products
