Principal Application Engineer 



The Datacenter GPU System Engineering team is seeking a Principal Application Engineer.  In this customer-focused role, you will be working with the world’s leading High-Performance Compute (HPC) GPUs being designed into exascale class supercomputers.  You will be working directly with key OEM partners, field application teams, internal development teams, and other stakeholders to bring a portfolio of next-generation Server Platforms to market using AMD’s Radeon Instinct™ Accelerators and support them post- production. 


Your will: 

  • Manage the technical interaction with partners and provide on-site support as needed. 

  • Support OEM partner design and test of new server motherboards, as well as providing guidance & support of board bring-up and qualification. 

  • Debug issues (HW, firmware, driver) to determine root cause and drive them to closure, working with internal development teams when needed. 

  • Work with development teams throughout the engineering organization on deeper technical investigations. 

  • Support our customers in conducting qualifications. 

  • Understand partner requirements and schedule, identify gaps in AMD offering and work with other stakeholders to close them. 

  • Author design guidelines, technical presentations, and training material. 

  • Provide recommendations to improve customer experience with our SW and HW. 



  • Proven experience in data center engineering, board design, validation, or AE, with a preference for customer-facing roles. 

  • Strong technical skills with hands-on experience in performing HW debug, SI analysis, and performance optimization on various system architectures. 

  • Strong knowledge in PC/server architecture, high speed IO (PCIe, xGMI, CXL, DDR, USB), power and thermal management. 

  • Strong System Level Debugging Skills. 

  • Understanding and experience working with Enterprise Linux environment (Ubuntu, CentOS/RHEL and SLES). 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate technical results clearly and accurately. 



  • Familiarity with various deployment models including cloud, virtualization, and containers. 

  • Automation, orchestration, delivery via Kubernetes, Docker, or Mesos. 

  • Experience or knowledge of server firmware (eg: BIOS) settings, boot process, server monitoring and management SW. 

  • Solid knowledge of Shell/BASH, C/C++, Python, or other framework. 

  • Experience with OpenCL, CUDA, or ROCm is a plus. 

  • Proficiency in French is an asset. 



Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
