PMTS, Customer System Debug



Technical leader driving end to end System debug flow for key customer issues from Triage through Root Cause in post-silicon and datacenter environments. Systems are integrated combinations of computer hardware components (CPUs, graphics, memory, IO adapters and peripherals) and software components (firmware, BIOS, drivers, OS, virtualization, system management, and applications). 

As a Principal Member of Technical Staff, this role involves driving Task Force teams that include individuals from Silicon Design, FW Design, Platform Design, Debug leads, Software, and Validation teams to isolate problem logic through meticulous design of high-ROI experiments and prioritization of debug activities with attention to resource usage. 



The individual has a strong understanding of the general silicon engineering process (preferably CPU or SoC), from concept to tape-out and then production. A successful candidate must have outstanding verbal, as well as written, communication skills. 

The candidate must have the capability to quickly establish credibility with customers and drive issues seamlessly across organizational and geographical boundaries. 



  • Own end-to-end debug of assigned issues 
  • Lead complex debug efforts for customer/partner findings to identify root cause and resolution 
  • Drive proven solutions to technical issues and design challenges 
  • Drive effective changes in System & silicon validation, and characterization of existing and new microprocessor SOC products 
  • Improve debug capabilities and methodology over time by identifying common challenges or impediments to efficient debug and working with partner organizations to drive innovation in tools and methods. 
  • Work with cross organization teams to ensure Silicon/SW/Platform/etc. features are in sync, development is supported, and validation is planned 
  • Engage with customer to proactively improve post-silicon Validation test strategy, methodology and process 



  • Exceptionally strong in x86 CPU architecture 
  • Strong analytical skills, demonstrable experience in design of experiments to solve problems 
  • Hands-on experience developing and/or debugging low-level firmware such as UEFI, power management FW, memory initialization and training, or similar. 
  • Experience working directly with customers on system debug from initial discovery to root cause and resolution. Proven track record of defining potential workarounds or bug fixes, assessing viability, validating, and delivering/deploying to customers. 
  • Experience with Linux and Microsoft Operating Systems, Hypervisors (VMware, KVM, XEN, Hyper-V, etc.), and validation/certification processes for each of these environments 
  • Prior experience with Server system design and Validation, testing tools and environments 
  • Strong understanding of industry standard IO interfaces (DDR, PCIe, SATA, USB, XGbE) 
  • Experience debugging with Oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, and JTAG based Debug Tools 
  • Programming / scripting language (Python) is required 
  • Ability to structure and execute complex analysis, draw insights, and communicate summary findings/recommendations to senior management as well as AMD customers 
  • Highly organized, able to prioritize, and juggle multiple work streams to tight deadlines 
  • Ability to network, establish relationships and drive effective decision-making across multiple functions and levels within the organization 



BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering or related major
