What you do at AMD changes everything

At AMD, we push the boundaries of what is possible.  We believe in changing the world for the better by driving innovation in high-performance computing, graphics, and visualization technologies – building blocks for gaming, immersive platforms, and the data center.

Developing great technology takes more than talent: it takes amazing people who understand collaboration, respect, and who will go the “extra mile” to achieve unthinkable results.  It takes people who have the passion and desire to disrupt the status quo, push boundaries, deliver innovation, and change the world.   If you have this type of passion, we invite you to take a look at the opportunities available to come join our team.

The Role :

The Architectural Modeling tool (AM) is the one simulator across all existing graphics product at AMD. The tool is utilized to predict the performance of the next-gen product across different GPU families at AMD. The role of the Engineer/Scientist can be of four different categories.

  1. Problem identification: AM is the first tool that is used by architects across the company, and its data, in whatever form it is delivered by AM engineers, is what is used to identify points that can be enhanced in our next-gen products. AM team develops variety of tools and datapoints, in consumable format, that makes finding the problems easier.
  2. Feature Development: AM team works with variety of architects on ideas to solve different problems or improve the graphic architecture. They heavily contribute to developing those ideas, known as features, and implementing and assessing them. AM team has the core responsibility of proving or disproving a feature, and their presented data is what is used to mark a feature for inclusion in next-gen product.
  3. Model Development: AM is an accurate and reliable tool across the company so functional and performance validation of the tool is essential for AMD. An AM engineer is involved in this process, which allows them, in a short period of time, to develop the skillset to know the entire graphics and compute pipeline for all our off-the-shelve products, and details of the upcoming changes and their impact.
  4. Model Enhancement: AM is a C++-based simulator, with many python-based postscripts for data visualization. Over the years, both C++ and python have changed for the better, and the AM engineer would get the chance to bring their expertise in these languages to improve the AM tools in terms of wall-clock runtime, memory consumption, and complexity.

The Person:

As a GPU modeling co-op/intern, you will work in a hardware/software codesign environment to craft industry leading simulation platforms and tools, have a strong voice in next-generation of AMD’s products, and get to learn and contribute to the entire graphics pipeline and software/hardware stack. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled software designer and engineer, capable of advanced data processing and analysis. The knowledge of the GPU hardware and the efficient use of discrete GPUs, APUs, and mobile devices is a huge plus. The engineer is working with a big team on variety of opportunities, so teamwork and drive are also required.

      • AMD is a government contractor and subcontractor. As required by Executive Order, our US employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee’s work location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law. If selected, you will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and submit documentation of proof of vaccination by January 4, 2022. AMD will provide additional information regarding what information or documentation will be needed and how you can request an exception from this requirement if you have a need for a religious and/or medical accommodation.
