Software Development Manager


The Role:

As a software development manager within AMD’s Data Center Group, you will lead a team of high caliber software engineers driving the design, development, and testing of software components for leading edge video codec and video analytics solutions. This position will involve collaborating with AMD software and hardware engineering teams as well as AMD partners and customers to develop innovative software features enabling delivery of AMD’s product roadmap.


The Person:

You are an experienced, hands-on leader with strong technical, organizational, communication and leadership skills.  You possess exceptional knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle, and you excel in leading skilled engineers within a fast-paced, matrixed, global work environment. You will drive software technology strategies, oversee product development and delivery, and actively manage team growth, development and agility.  You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure engineering efforts are aligned.



  • Manage an R&D software engineering team including staff hiring, mentoring, career development, engagement and retention
  • Develop comprehensive R&D plans by overseeing the resource allocation, development, implementation, and execution of multiple projects concurrently, ensuring scope and schedule are achieved
  • Identify opportunities for and drive continuous improvements of development practices and efficiencies, adoption of tech tools, and execution strategies
  • Present technical summaries and updates to all levels of the organization
  • Track software development and feature enablement progress by comparing the actual progress against the plan
  • Play a key role in understanding product architecture, requirements while ensuring scope control


Preferred Experience:

  • A minimum of 7 years industry experience consisting of at least 2 years of management experience leading software engineering teams
  • Comprehensive understanding of the end-to-end software development process (Software Development Life Cycle)
  • Demonstrated strong mentoring, coaching, performance management, and people development skills
  • Experience with system software (driver/OS level) on Linux (preferred) or Windows environments
  • Strong software development background and skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of productivity and project tools such as Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ways to stand out:
    • Strong development skills with experience in C/C++ as well as shell scripting
    • Experience with multiple software development lifecycle methodologies (Agile, SCRUM)
    • Familiarity with GPU programming models like CUDA and/or HIP
    • Knowledge of video codecs (h.264, h.265, AV1)
    • Experience using and/or developing for video processing frameworks: FFmpeg, Gstreamer
    • Experience with video analytics/machine learning



  • Bachelors degree in one of the following:
    • Computer Science/Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering or Software Engineering
    • Mathematics
