Financial Accounting Manager

The role:

The Corporate Accounting Manager is a highly transparent position within AMD’s (the Company’s) Corporate Accounting team responsible for managing the Company’s accounting operations and the worldwide monthly and quarter end close with the reporting activities. This position will be hands-on with an emphasis on driving improvements to shorten the accounting close cycle. This position is based in Santa Clara, California and will report directly to the Director of Corporate Accounting.

The person:

We are looking for candidates with a mix of public accounting, proven experience of US GAAP and CPA certification. In addition, we are looking for candidates who are willing to challenge the status quo and who are excellent communicators, critical problem solvers and decision-makers. Ideal candidates must be detail oriented, highly efficient in project management, and be able to work in a fast-paced environment. Another meaningful factor will include the ability to identify and drive the improvement of process and technology to improve the quality, speed, and scalability of the company’s monthly, quarterly close process.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure accurate, timely reporting results in accordance with US GAAP and global accounting policies
  • Actively participate in quarterly financial close to review significant and sophisticated accounting matters in compliance with US GAAP
  • Engage with cross-functional teams (including finance, accounting, supply chain, and operations to drive the financial consolidation process for the Long-Range Plan, Annual Operating Plan, and quarterly financial forecast including revenue, margin, operating expenses, and inventory
  • Prepare and present monthly and quarterly consolidated financial results and analytical review procedures on significant changes to senior management and business partner
  • Own the Accounting Policy Governance Team. Provide insights / direction to policy owners or participate in preparation of new or existing accounting policies with Accounting Policy Governance team based on evolving industry standards and practices and inspire changes in those areas. Run the review and approval of the finance policies with the Chief Accounting Officer.
  • Maintain chart of accounts and accounting system information
  • Responsible for SOX compliance activities within areas, including executing on controls, updating SOX documentation, and supporting testing efforts
  • Maintain the relationship with internal and external auditors to ensure an effective and efficient audit over internal controls and ensuring the timely delivery of required audit evidence by process owners
  • Identify and implement improvements in execution to reduce time to close and improve accuracy of underlying accounting records
  • Lead accounting automation projects including the design, implementation and maintenance of scalable finance and reporting systems
  • Set guidelines for the work performed by the shared service center supporting the monthly and quarterly consolidation and financial reporting process
  • Attend, and actively participate in, monthly close meetings run by the corporate accounting and business unit finance teams.
  • Develop a team of diverse and hardworking accountants at various levels to accomplish tasks accurately and within specified deadlines
  • Assist executive leadership teams with special projects, research and supplemental reporting

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, Master’s degree in Finance/Accounting a plus
  • Big 4 or national public accounting experience and CPA/CA preferred
  • Public company experiences preferred
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Auditing/Accounting/Finance
  • CPA/CA or equivalent required
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • SAP experience a plus
