What you do at AMD changes everything

At AMD, we push the boundaries of what is possible.  We believe in changing the world for the better by driving innovation in high-performance computing, graphics, and visualization technologies – building blocks for gaming, immersive platforms, and the data center.

Developing great technology takes more than talent: it takes amazing people who understand collaboration, respect, and who will go the “extra mile” to achieve unthinkable results.  It takes people who have the passion and desire to disrupt the status quo, push boundaries, deliver innovation, and change the world.   If you have this type of passion, we invite you to take a look at the opportunities available to come join our team.

GPU Graphics and Compute Architect, Advanced Rendering, Ray/Path Tracing

The Role:

Create powerful new products that enable our customers, partners, and developers to tackle their computing task or visualization needs efficiently and creatively. We build state of the art hardware, software, and algorithms in the field of graphics, compute architecture, computer vision, and machine learning to come up with appropriate SW-HW partitioning, architectures, models and specifications for HW/SW/FW implementations. Develop new hardware, algorithms, or adaptations to existing systems to enable new ground-breaking capabilities and experiences.

The Person:

As a GPU Graphics Architect, you will work in a hardware/software codesign environment to craft industry leading ray tracing algorithms, their implementations on hardware and the hardware architecture!

The ideal candidate is a highly skilled software designer and engineer, strong in 3D math, proficient in C and C++ and the efficient use of discrete GPUs, APUs, and CPUs. You are team oriented and are driven by difficult challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advance RDNA hardware and software real time ray tracing technologies.
  • Discover and develop emerging ray tracing and rendering algorithms and technology to drive GPU design advancements
  • Analyze and model ray tracing feature algorithms to identify performance limiters in hardware and software on both silicon hardware and pre-silicon GPUs
  • Provide PPA and schedule estimates and tradeoffs
  • Work with software, hardware, and architecture implementation teams to identify issues and improve performance

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in ray/path-tracing hardware acceleration and software algorithms
  • Proven grasp of data-parallel and/or accelerated computing (CUDA, OpenCL)
  • Developing existing simulation applications or knowledge of existing 3D game engines
  • GCN / RDNA graphics architecture experience
  • Experience with DirectX 12 and/or Vulkan graphics APIs
  • Knowledge/Experience in GPU programming
  • Hardware modeling skills in C/C++ (GPGPU Sim or Multi-sim a plus)
  • OpenCL/CUDA/ROCm development experience

Academic Credentials:

  • Masters, PhD or 5 years industry experience in relevant field (CS, EE, CE)
