THE ROLE:

AMD Research is looking for a researcher to develop future microprocessor architectures, enrich HW/SW interfaces, and invent novel, hardware-conscious software optimizations.

 

THE PERSON:

You cannot stop inventing, implementing, and validating new ways to increase processor architecture efficiency, programmability and performance. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify performance limitations of current and planned CPU core hardware on key workloads.
  • Invent and analyze CPU architectural enhancements and software optimizations to scale performance, lower power, and lower total cost of ownership.
  • Investigate new instruction set architectures to accelerate domain-specific workloads.
  • Submit patentable inventions.
  • Clearly communicate research findings to academic, product and commercial audiences.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Deep understanding of CPU uarchitecture-conscious, software optimizations.
  • Strong knowledge of CPU ISAs and modern out-of-order pipelines.
  • Demonstrated experience in CPU profiling and bottleneck analysis.
  • Experience programming in C/C++ and Python.
  • Knowledge of compilers, libraries, operating systems and drivers.
  • Knowledge of CPU programming models.

 

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

  • Knowledge of compute runtimes, accelerators and profile-guided optimizations.

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • PhD degree or equivalent accomplishments in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related field
